Taking scissors (sewing) on board the planes
Hi - Do you have any idea if airlines/airports are now allowing to take small scissors through security and on the planes?
I always go on very long flights and I like taking my quilting/sewing work with me to do on the planes.
I used to be able to do it without any problems but everything has changed after 9/11 and I have had some confiscated.
Is this still the case? I do not want this to happen again. It is a real pain in the ....
We are not terrorists. We are quilters and we want to be able to do our quilting on the planes. :-:

Your post made me think about a Thanksgiving trip with my mother in late 2004 when TSA found - and confiscated - five pairs of Ghingers. She'd just come from a quilting trip where she'd checked all her bags, and she'd forgotten they were there. As I was the one who insisted she carry-on bags when traveling with me, I ended up buying her a lot of replacement Ghingers that year.

I'll add one clarification to letiole's excellent post: The rules were relaxed regarding scissors last December but those rules don't matter if you leave the USA, as other countries may not have relaxed their rules to allow the pointed scissors with blades of four inches or less. So if you carry them on while leaving the USA (which you may, according to the TSA's latest rules), you may still have them confiscated (or forced to check them, if possible) when you pass thru a non-USA security checkpoint.

Thank you for your answers, they are very helpful.
I fly out of Europe so I guess I will have to check with the airports and see what their rules are. There is no point for me taking them if the airport will confiscate them even though the airlines will allow them on board the flights.
