Registered Traveller program and new rules?
Anybody flown in the past few weeks out of one of the Registered Traveller airports? I'm curious if the new "shoes off, coats off" rules apply to registered travellers who don't alarm the WTMD's with their shoes on. If they have to disrobe as well, there wasn't a lot of point to the Registered Traveller program; but at least <big defense contractor> got their R&D contract...

Yes it does apply. I'm a RT, and went thru yesterday at UA Terminal 7. Had to take my very light coat off. I took the shoes off automatically, as they are metal filled. The TSA people do not see your RT stamp, until after the metal detector. Not worth debating the coat logistics, before I enter the machine.
BTW, west side of T-7 at noon yesterday, regular line was 40 minutes. Took me nine. I actually timed it, as my sister was in the proletariat line.

To make things even better for DL FC and Elite pax, there's usually a dedicated security line that limits the wait to less than five minutes even at peak periods.
The biggest hassle at LAX is just getting TO the TSA security checkpoint. Once I get through the lengthy DL check-in process and the inevitable line to drop off suitcases for inspection, everything else is thankfully downhill.

At this time the RT line and the UA Elite line is the same, at the checkpoint on the west side of T-7. Only advantage to being an RT is you get a stamp keeping you out of secondary (unless you "ding" the detector).
It actually adds time to the start-finish process to get the RT stamp, if you are Elite. About a minute.

If only because they will be a very select group and smaller in overall numbers at any given airport than an airline's Elite flyers.
Just the matter of having to go through a few extra steps to get this stamp of approval will limit the number who can/will become RT's. Most folks won't bother IMO.
I personally am looking forward to signing up.

My experiences as an RT at DCA
1. No special RT line or equipment. Asked about RT program and was allowed to buck the (relatively short) line.
2. Special RT line, used by nobody, regular line was 1/2 hour long. Skipped line and had my govt-approved eyeballs scanned. But I still had to take off my shoes.
