Does Delta permit the use of dig cameras on flights?

I would bet their whole policy making system is in flux. I'd call. I know that all digitals had to be declared and were checked July 4th, because the national alert was raised, but you could take them on Continental, and they basically own Delta. But Northwest is a dog that I would never board again, and they have entirely different rules than the other two, but they are only a partner of Continental.

Hi hotintexas and welcome to FT. I have no idea what you mean by the above comment. On what grounds do you claim that CO basically owns DL? If you have been told that, then you were misinformed. CO does not own DL in any shape, form or fashion.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here: are you claiming that DL required declaration of digital cameras and/or the placing them in checked luggage over the July 4 weekend, or are you referring to normal TSA screening of electronics in carry-on? (Also the color-code level was not raised over July 4, 2004.)

To my knowledge, no airline bans the carrying or use of cameras. I seriously doubt they could get away with such. Most airline and TSA sources strongly suggest you hand-carry all cameras/electronics to avoid the risk of theft/damage in checked luggage.

Use of digital cameras may be disallowed during takeoff/landing due to the standard electronics restrictions on "anything with an off switch", but that's about it. There have been various reports and posts of passengers being questioned (or harassed) in both airports and on airplanes about the use of cameras, but to date there has been no credible citation of any regulation prohibiting their use.

I was on my plane when Delta's 75th anniversary plane pulled up the gate beside me. I took several pictures of it and a video from the F cabin and the F/As saw me doing it the entire time.

Not sure where the CO owns DL line came from.

So can i take it/use it on the flight to take pics?

Seriously -- and following up on Spiff's comment -- if anybody told me that I couldn't use a camera, I would politely ask them where they got the idea that they had such authority. Personal electronic devices are restricted during certain phases of flight, but while on the ground or high in the air, I'll pretty much do what I please with my own property. (I don't have a camera, but that's another matter!)

I wish that people were not so deferential to authority figures. Challenge them once in a while and see what happens! Unless they are quite sure of the correctness of their positon, they usually back down. Just never never never lose your cool. Then they've got you!

I have used my digital camera several times on DL flights in the full view of the FA's. The only restriction may be takeoff and landing.

And my son has a really nice video showing the take off from SLC last January. None of us even thought of asking and nobody complained.

I'm surprised no one has pulled the "you can't take pictures in our cabin because it is patented/copyrighted and business secret that we are trying to keep from our competitors."

It would be a laugh, but as funny as it is I'm surprised no one has tried it.

The same place she got the idea that people who don't look like Muslims (whatever that means) shouldn't be searched?
