TSA and shoe covers (over socks)

Are they now banned or did I run into screener discretion?

It’s been a few years since I used them, but BNA gave them out for free at the entrance to the security checkpoints. You can find „TSA Approved“ packs of footcovers on amazon.com.

I looked on the TSA website, but couldn’t find any mention of them at all.

I‘m thinking you encountered Screener Discretion at its finest.

Don't laugh. After I encountered resistance a couple times with booties, I switched to "travel socks". I take off my shoes and put my "travel socks" on over my regular socks and take them off after I clear the checkpoint. I've had TSOs stand there and watch me, but no one has ever said anything. Apparently there's nothing in the rules that says you can't wear multiple pairs of socks. <redacted>.
