Don't laugh. After I encountered resistance a couple times with booties, I switched to "travel socks". I take off my shoes and put my "travel socks" on over my regular socks and take them off after I clear the checkpoint. I've had TSOs stand there and watch me, but no one has ever said anything. Apparently there's nothing in the rules that says you can't wear multiple pairs of socks. <redacted>.
