Temporary Swedish passport
I am an a legal resident in USA. Tried to renew my swedish passport. Everytime I try the swedish goverment change the rules. So the fastest and cheapest is in Sweden.
The reason is cause of terroist/fraud and you name it.
The waiting list , if you even get on it, is long. And then even longer to get a permanent passpost. So I have to get a temporary one.
Question is has any traveled with a temporay passport? I have read/hears that it is not very popular at all.

The fees to get a Swedish passport are lower in Sweden than to apply for the Swedish passport in the US. Haven't the costs to get a Swedish passport in Sweden risen too, just not as much as they have skyrocketed for Swedish citizens applying from outside of Sweden?

Swedish embassys had a waiting list for an appoinment for passport. If the list got to a certain number you could not even sign up. You had to come back and see when a spot was avaible. Cancellations went to those on the list.and an appointment would still be months a head. Then Sweden stopped all passport appoinments for several months to make changes ! Then they started again with the lists. And that was just a few months ago.

Just letting everyone who read this that it will be a permanent passport.
I will miss big family events. But taking the risk of not gettinge there either is big. Even the swedish embassy it could go 2 ways.
Sad but true.

The TSA has made a stink over passengers only having some "emergency" travel docs -- or even emergency limited validity passports -- when proceeding to the screening checkpoints. CBP sometimes too makes a stink about it, but IME not as often as TSA has. More often than a problem with DHS employees is a problem with, or started by, airline reps over some such docs since the US used VWP as a carrot and stick to get other countries to increasingly centralize passport processing and whipped other countries into a frenzy to make passports "more secure".
Guess who has dealt with these problems: current and former Swedish government employees who have served in, or overseen, consular functions for Swedish citizens in the US over previous periods of time since the ID paranoia went epidemic domestically in the US after 9/11.

I know that there are people who have had a "fuss" made by TSA at a checkpoint for an international trip, but I do not know anybody who was unable to overcome the "fuss" at the checkpoint, with a supervisor. Along with the passport replacing document (read temporary passport), they had been asked to produce other ID such as a DL and, barring that, other documents which tend to identify. These could include non-official ID's from an employer or a school, utility bills, vehicle registrations and the like.

I am a legal US resident. I dont work and have no bills. I dont drive. I am being supported by my partner. So that would not help me at all. Tempory passports are PINK and have really no info on it. Just the name. Big risk to take for $ 200 and airplane ticket. Plus being treated like I did something wrong. I am going for the real passport . That after 15 +- months and no list to go on and you name it. Eventually only emergency passports will b e issued in the USA. Cause it is getting more and more complicated. Sigh.

[Except for living in San Francisco, I don't even want to start to imagine living in California for many years without having a driving license and a car of my own to get around.]

A swedish man who had his things stolen in Brazil just ended up in detantion in NY.
He travelled from Brazil to NY for a transit to ... Sweden/Europe.He was there for hrs.
So if you dont know what a tempoary passport is I will tell you
It is a paper showing that you are swedish. It is not anything that could be scanned. Nothing there. Just a slip in a PINK holder.
No won der that it looks weird. EVEN if it is totally LEGAL.
