Don't worry about BNA. I had a hard time there using my NEXUS card back in January 2010 and complained over TSA.gov. BNA's Training Manager actually called me the next day to apologize and said "We clearly have some training to do! Please come down and see us again!" So offhand, I'd say your GE card has a fighting chance of being accepted, even if seeing one in Middle Tennessee is a once-in-a-blue-moon experience for most TSO's!

I used my Global Entry card at the BOS Terminal B (US Airways side) main TSA checkpoint without issue yesterday, August 16. It looked like the TDC even knew what feature to look for with the UV light (some wavy lines on the back).

I suppose that is reasonable, but I do wonder what "training" is required other than saying that that card is the same as the NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST cards except it says GLOBAL ENTRY; the security features are identical. The "training" should take 90 seconds.

This is TSA. I think you're being overly generous in terms of how long it will take.

I think the same lines are on the front--they're a plane, a ship, and a car, if the GE card is as similar to the NEXUS one as I think. That said, I don't know if the TDC actually knew what to look for or was just waving the card around under his UV light out of habit.

At IAD this am... Got the "this is not an authorized document for accessing the TSA checkpoint" ... Supervisor said the same thing when I pressed... Had my DL, so I got thru... Oh well, need to wait until the web site is updated before I press further.

My return to BOS from LAX (main UA checkpoint) was even stranger. For some reason I felt compelled to pull out my passport card instead of my gobal entry card, which ended up being a "good" thing, because the TDC tried the "this is not an authorized document" on me. He claimed that is was only valid for customs (?), but not for ID; when I asked when this changed, he said it was always that way. He then tried convincing me to just use my DL instead of requesting a supervisor, but I figured it was worth educating him on it being an acceptable ID, so I waited it out. Of course, the supervisor immediately indicated it was OK for me to use it.

Always an adventure with the TSA...

Just went through Terminal C at EWR using my GE Card as ID. TSA stared at it for a moment and took a good look at the back, but didn't even say a word. Success.

I used my GE card at JFK last week. The TSA guy looked it over and said that he had heard about the cards but mine was the first one he had seen. He was very friendly and accepted the card as ID without hassling me.

I used my GE card in BOS yesterday - success.

I used my Concealed Weapons License at MIA just for effect a couple of weeks ago - also success. It is, in fact, a State issued Photo ID. The moat dragon looked at it - says "State of Florida", says "OK"

The only thing I'd caution you about with using a CCW is that sometimes it might bring more hassle than it's worth. The licenses also sometimes contain more information on them than even a driver's license. As a CCW holder, I'm sure you appreciate the concept of trying to avoid risky or escalating situations whenever possible as these are concepts taught in the training courses. While a CCW presented to law enforcement - I'm not talking about the TSA here - usually allows them to feel comfortable that you're one of the good guys, I'm sure you've seen the videos where it's gone horribly wrong.

This is why I always use my passport card for the TDC. There's no address on the card - like the GE card - and it presents the minimum information set that the TSA requires. If it were ever declined - it hasn't been thus far - I would politely but firmly inform the TDC to summon a supervisor or check the ID book. Hopefully the end result is one or more educated TSOs.

^ I agree completely. I'm from Texas and run into people that still don't understand why someone would need a CHL/CCW to begin with. That being said, I feel that using my CHL would give more information to the TDC lacky that he/she needed and possibly result in the TDC asking me a stupid question like, "why do you need to carry a firearm" or "are you traveling with firearms, etc" Both of which are irrelevant and would only cause *me* (not the TDC) potential hassle at the checkpoint.

I haven't renewed my PP to get a card yet, so I use my GE card these days. If they don't recognize GE, i tell them to flip it over and it says 'Sentri' on the back and they recognize it and let me through.

[QUOTE=EnhancedByCO;16951371the TDC tried the "this is not an authorized document" on me. He claimed that is was only valid for customs (?), but not for ID; [/QUOTE]

This is the part I don't get. If a photo id is valid to get through customs, why wouldn't it be valid for the TSA? I would think that getting through customs would require a higher standard than getting through the TSA checkpoint. My mistake may be trying to logically think while dealing with the TSA.

It's good to know I'm not the only person who uses a passport card for exactly this reason.

Not quite as bad as PHX, but this is a very passenger unfriendly airport.

The Blueshirts there are also the most crotch-grabby and porno-booth happy I've seen.
