The next security scam?
I can see these being sold to screen baggage and passengers.
"Jim McCormick promised his ADE-651 wand could identify anything, including bombs, simply by waving it around with the right RFID card inside. Yeah, totally fake, and now he's in prison. Too bad Iraq already spent $85 million on them. Updated.
Literally, the $40,000 (apiece) devices did absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch. Experts think the insides contained nothing more than a dumb RFID card. Powered by nothing. Nope, not even a power supply. Just some snake oil, if that. $85 million!"

The bogus security equipment manufacturers are lining up at TSA HQ.
Did anything ever come of those two-way pagers that allowed TSO's to secretly send eachother pre-set messages? I believe TSA had orders pending for about $10 m of that garbage.

What you say?
You mean to tell me my magic wand is worthless?
The updates near the end says it all:
Didn't anyone test these devices? How can the Iraqi's, after being told the devices are worthless, continue to use them?
Unbelievable !!!!!

The updates near the end says it all:
Update: We ran the US's doubts on this device in November. This story confirms without a doubt that devices were fake, probably resulted in hundreds of deaths, and that McCormick, thankfully for the human race, has been arrested and is awaiting trial (although he's currently out on bail).
Update 2: The story gets worse. As some have pointed out below, the Iraqi government is standing by these useless devices, even after the BBC report and complaint were filed. [BBC, CrunchGear]

Saw the vid some days ago; I trust McCormick was giving kickbacks to some Iraqi administrator, although all in all the money probably came from us.
I hope they go beyond fraud and charge him with murder.
Slightly crafty though making it like a old divining rod, which my grandfather used to find water in michigan (dig deep enough and anywhere will do).
A simple double blind test of fixing the rod on a tripod and moving explosives past it would prove it didn't work.
And then RFID "cards" to detect various items....again crafty.
Sorry for the guys that died though.
