Lima Jan. 16-22
The girlfriend and I are taking a trip to Lima on the dates above. Because of (her) budget issues, we are only planning on staying in Lima and the surrounding area for the week. I have heard that there is plenty to do in Lima, but now that I'm really planning everything out I'm not sure. Is there...
Any other tips you might have for a relatively long stay in Lima would be appreciated. Thanks.
- Anything special going on on those dates that I should look out for?
- Anyone else that will be in Lima these dates that would like to meet up?
- Any short and/or inexpensive day trips to see some wildlife or anything that you can't find in the city?
Any other tips you might have for a relatively long stay in Lima would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would suggest a day trip to the Islas Ballestas in Pisco. Shouldnt break your budget and it will be enjoyable. Plenty of marine wildlife. If you have any other questions you can PM me since I live in Lima.

I'm not aware of anything special happening in Jan.
There is a place called lomas de lachay about 1.5-2 hours from Lima where you can go camping and they have deers and birds.
Chosica is a popular resort area for Limeos. Its about 1 hour from the city and you can get there in combi for less than $1 so it could be good for a day trip. Or Lunahuana is another day trip idea (http://peruturismototal.blogspot.com...na-canete.html)
I thought the trip to Islas Ballestas was boring and generally wouldn't recommend it (especially since its 3-4 hours in bus), but if you want to see penguins & sea lions, thats the spot. If you go there, I'd visit Huacachina for some sandboarding.
I should be in Lima those dates if you want to get together.

Since you cannot cross the country, you can go to the Parque de Leyendas in Lima. It is arranged so as to see the three zones in Peru (coast, mountains and jungle) and the associated wildlife for each.
