NH World

Hi,
I was hoping if someone could explain to me the different NH world status... I am sorta having trouble finding any concrete info.

Thanks,
SB

NH World

I've been looking for a secondary program for me to have when there's no Club Carlson hotel, or it's too expensive. I thought I'd give NH a try because my travel's primarily in Europe and the top-tier level has good benefits. There's also a lot of NH's in Germany, and specifically, I'm staying somewhere where there's only an NH for the next month.

I sent an e-mail asking if they status match, and sent a copy of my club carlson and accor statements.

Their reply:
Dear berlinflyer:

First and foremost, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the trust you have placed in our chain NH Hoteles and for having contacted our NH World Department.

Regarding your request, we have to inform you that the calculation of credits earned to modify your account to a superior status will be carried out over the number of Credits earned during a period of 12 months, independently of the number of credits redeemed during this time.

The review of the card will be carried out once 12 calendar months have elapsed since the previous review. This review will be done on the 31st of December 2012.
So they didn't answer my question. I asked them to confirm they don't status match, and that this was indeed the case in the program, I would need to wait to get status until the end of the year, even if I stayed the next 30 days in their hotel (getting 90 credits roughly).

Their reply:
Good morning berlinflyer:

We would like to confirm you that in the NH World program there are different categories, depending of the Credits accumulated during a calendar year:

NH World Attraction (accrual of 36 to 89 Credits in one year)
NH World Fascination (accrual of more than 90 Credits in one year)
Again, they don't seem to really read e-mail or understand the concept of a status match.

They also don't understand what "free wifi" means, because they advertise the crap out of free wifi in the lobby and room, and then you can click and see participating hotels, nearly every one of them has a * and says "lobby only" in tiny print at the bottom.

But it doesn't matter, I've only been in this NH hotel for 2 days and I'm checking out this evening. WiFi costs 30 euro/day, and an entire hockey team was staying on my floor (everyone but me was on the team)...so I haven't slept basically in two days. I think the youth hostel in town looks more relaxing.

<end rant>

The concept of frequent guest programs as it exists in the Anglo-Saxon world is still largely unknown to continental-European hotel chains. For them those programs are about getting points and spending them on free nights. Status levels, upgrades, status matches etc. just dont exist (or are very badly implemented) in most of them.

Honestly, I am even amazed that you mention a top-tier for NH. I am member of their program, but have never even tried to reach a next level (maybe because I looked at the details and decided it just wasnt worth it compared with programs like SPG and HH).

Only a few programs are slowly crawling out of the last century: Solmelia with Ms, or Accor (but they seem to be stuck in the were only beginners phase) for instance. And of course AC hotels, because they were fortunate enough to be taken over by Marriott.

Chains like NH, Barcel, Lindner, etc. could get a lot more stays from me if only they had a half decent loyalty program. But as things stand, I only check their hotels for prices and availability if I cant find anything with the chains that offer me the benefits...

The problem is finding hotels on the continent, where most of my travel is. Club Carlson's pretty good for me: the hotels are nice, and the program's reasonable. Maybe I should take a closer look at where SPG or HH hotels are in Europe, but I suspect there's not good coverage for me.

Accor is everywhere, but the program isn't that great. NH's top tier (Fascination) looked OK because you get 7% return guaranteed on all spend at NH, and upgrades when available. NH seems to be wherever a Radisson Blu isn't, so I figured....why not. I only stayed once or twice before at one and I thought it was OK.

I wish the European brands would pick up on what loyalty means, because those perks really help make the decision of where to stay. This specific NH I'm staying at might be an outlier, but it is pretty awful having little sleep for two days. And, because I've had such a good experience with club carlson, I've checked out of this crappy NH and I'm driving 30 minutes everyday to a Park Inn.

It seemed like a nice idea to try, but I've learned my lesson.

I'm member, but just for the occasional stay. Maybe I should give them a try again. (But there is a limit to the number of programs in which I can reach status of course... )

Probably. Honestly, if I would travel in Europe only and would only stay in hotels that are conveniently located I could not be SPG Plat + HH Diamond.

NH has some crap hotels, and some nice ones. But the same is valid for Park Inn of course....

Coverage IS a topic in Europe when it comes to international hotel chains and their loyalty programme.
I just now joined NH World, because a NH hotel was my choice when planning a 5-night-stay in Groningen, the Netherlands. Until today I never stayed in one of the NH hotels (only in Golden Tulip or Tulip Inn that thereafter changed to NH).
I thought it does not hurt to join their programme since I share the perceptions that their European coverage is quite good. I will report back on my stay.

I joined their programme in 2009 and had a number of stays in various NH hotels. Here was my experience: I had booked both stays in the same hotel on their website, logged in to my NH World account.

1st stay. "Have you ever stayed at this hotel before?" No. "Have you ever stayed at an NH hotel before?" Not sure. Check-in agent searches their system for about five minutes whether I can be found somewhere. They don't and give me a registration card to fill in my address. I remind them that I am an NH World member and booked the stay through their website, so they should already have this information. No, they don't.

2nd stay (a few months later). "Have you ever stayed at this hotel before?". Yes. Check-in agent searches their system for my last stay and can't find it. I give them my NH World number, and they find no trace of me. I am handed the registration card again.

This was the moment when I gave up on them as a loyalty programme. If they can't manage to find data on a guest who has booked through their own webpage, has a frequent customer number that he can provide and has stayed in that very hotel a few months ago, then how can a loyalty programme work?

I suspect their loyalty program doesn't work. I stayed a couple of times at NH now, and I have to fill out the registration card every time. Half the stays I booked didn't earn any points because of confusing terms that you have to read very carefully. For anyone considering NH, I'd say reconsider.

If there's no CC hotel, I just go wherever now. Overall, I'm as pleased as Punch with just only having Club Carlson. The program is absolutely fantastic. With some careful planning, it's possible to find one normally near my customers, and Park Inn's are always in my price range (~125 EUR or less) and Radisson Blu's sometimes are too. Tons of usable point promotions, and the 4for2 and 2for1 benefits are brilliant, which I've used a few times now.

Credits

I completed our five night stay in a superiour room at the NH DeVille in Groningen, The Netherlands. No complaints so far. The restaurant was surprisingly very good in terms of cuisine, service and ambiente.
The points were not credited automatically. So, I mentioned this when reporting the GM on my hotel experience. He transfered my points request and one week later 8 credit points showed up on my account. I replied to nh world that according to my expenses I would expect 32 credit points. This had been rectified quickly.
My first-time experience with nh world.

it is not just their frequent guest IT system that does not work. I just ran into the problem, that a hotel could not see that I had a prepaid reservation, so they made me pay twice. Next day they realized their mistake and asked for my payment info via e-mail for reimbursment. bullocks

Anyone know how to redeem points? I have 25 randomly expiring on May 11 but I do have a reservation booked for the NH Zandvoort towards the end of June. Can I apply those points towards that reservation?

NH World

You can only redeem points on non-prepaid reservations. If you have a flexible reservation, just ask them to use your 25 credits and pay the remainder by card/cash. 1 credit - 1 euro. You cannot use the credits for city tax though.
