1865 membership benefits

For those interested in the program, above is the published benefits. It's interesting to note that even at top tier, there is no club access or breakfast included. Internet access is complimentary to all guest regardless of membership.

So is this loyalty program worth it? Well, they seem to have very nice properties however only a small footprint. They are expanding mainly in China currently with a few properties in North America.

There is no point system as well hence there really isn't any returns in the long run if you remain loyal. However, according to TripAdvisor (taking it with a pinch of salt of course), all their properties have generally great reviews. I guess service standards are high in this chain.

Let's see how it goes in the long run as we contribute more and more to this thread. :)

Well said and great points!
The in house experience and how they react and recover from issues would have to justify the lack of free nights return.
I called the NYC property and rang 20 times before someone picked up the phone.
Then with minimal English speaking skills the team member rushed her words and sentences so I could barely understand her.
Not a great first impression but probably not representative of the actual stay experience. I hope :)
I'm also not sure what came first Hyatt Place or Langham Place however I think of a Langham Place as a 2 star property with the name Langham Place
It doesn't resonate 700 dollar a night and up rooms in my thought process
Perhaps its a non issue but it would be the same to me if the they said Langham Inn it cheapens the name

Thanks for replying. I registered online February 3 so I will keep an eye out for a pink package in the mail.

I register sometimes in December (20-something Dec) and only get the pink package few days ago. The letter is dated January 2014 (with no real date). I guess they probably process it in batch and also ship it in batch.

How long does it usually take to get a response on the rate guarantee? I submitted one last night and haven't heard anything, conscious that the longer it goes the more likely the rate is to go up.

They don't have a centralized team to verify it so it depends on each individual property. And considering it's the weekend, you'll probably have to wait longer.

Thanks, hopefully will get something tomorrow. Price has increased on the other site (although still cheaper) but have a booking in with the site as well so hopefully it will go through OK.

Langham new CEO

Looks like there's a new boss at the helm. They're pushing Europe as well as China.

As an update, I received my package today (April 3) so it took TWO MONTHS after registering to the package.

Third Party - OTA

I think I saw one person that previously booked through AMEX platinum and I assume he/she still got the benefits? Anyone else have experience with booking via OTA and being given all benefits? How do you get your 1865 Voyager # connected with the OTA reservation? Email 1865?

Thanks

Langham Place Xiamen (China) Review

Here's my TA review:

I've experienced the Langham treatment at the only other property which I've ever stayed at so far and that was Langham Xintiandi, Shanghai. This property did not disappoint. The hotel was only 3 months old when I stayed there. I had 2 separate stays here while in Xiamen and used their opening offer for 1865 members. Part of the offer was complimentary airport shuttle service.

After arriving at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, a young associate had a sign with my name waiting at the arrival gate and proceeded to carry my hand carry luggage towards the waiting MPV. It was a short ride to the hotel which was residing beside a Wanda shopping mall.

After arriving, was greeted by multiple staff/associates and was escorted to the Club lounge known as Club L to be checked-in. After the check-in formalities, I was brought to Superior Room 1209 (if I remember correctly) and the associate introduced the room amenities. I have to admit, nice layout of the room and bathroom! Welcome fruits and chocolates were a nice touch as well.

As I was given access to Club L, I had my breakfast there for both stays as it was very cozy and quiet (as I said, new property). They do have someone on hand to make eggs as well. If variety is what you're after then the all day dining restaurant known as The Place would be your breakfast hangout. Unfortunately I did not have a chance to partake in the evening cocktail service in Club L due to me being out there in the city behaving like a tourist. ;)

I did manage to get permission to view their Langham Suite. It was nice if you needed more room space and had a long stay.

The staff and service did not disappoint and I felt Langham maintained their standards at this hotel. I hope to return again to enjoy the amenities and service and of course the wonderful staff.

Note: I could not award 5 stars to this stay as my Amex credit card was rejected by their terminal (same credit card was accepted at other hotels in the city) and my Visa card was charged with DCC. Hope they will get it sorted out if they intend to accept international guests.

Just a FYI, the following were not yet ready for the public during my stay:

T2 (dining)
Chuan Spa
Other Suites besides Langham Suite

Nice review!

Anyway I've forgotten I was a member of 1865 until I receive a letter from them - I was given Gateway membership all along...

The hotels had always been fantastic and pretty consistent with service - but their international footprint is way too small.... A pity

Yeah their footprint is really limited. Even with the announced expansion in Europe, I think in the end they will still be considered a boutique brand (which is great if they continue with their current service level). Hope they keep it up across all properties! :)

Just wanted to give a very brief write-up after a weekend stay at the Langham Chicago. Overall a very nice place and the public spaces are well designed and thought out. The bar is really swanky with awesome views. Rooms were decently sized and the bathrooms were great. It's easy to see why its the #1 TA rated hotel in Chicago.

More specific to this thread and regarding the 1865 program, however....I qualified for Voyager status which invited me to set a whole bunch of preferences on the website. I'm not sure what any of that did as I had to ask for basically everything I was supposed to be entitled too. A little odd, I thought. No room upgrade offered, no late checkout, etc. etc. Obviously those things are all based on availability but when checking out on a Sunday, I'd think at least the late checkout would be an option as Sunday nights in DT chicago are normally quiet(er). I thought the execution of this 1865 deal was a bit wonky.

Though I've never stayed at the Four Seasons and I would consider the Trump a bit flashy, I give my nod to the Waldorf farther up along state street. Rooms are larger, upgrades are generous and it doesn't have the "zoo" feeling that the Langham did on a busy saturday night in Chicago.

I'd stay at the Langham again if the WA was not available or price competitive.
