Here's the claim:

=============================================
Confirmation Number:
Arrival Date: 2013-11-06
Hotel: The Langham, Hong Kong
Name on Reservation: Grant Smith
Reserved Rate:$HKD2530
=============================================
Lower rate that customer found
=============================================
Reserved Rate: $HKD1873
Found on (Web Address): Wotif.com
Date(s) that the lower rate applies to: 2013-11-06
Currency: HKD
Date Found: 2013-06-05
Comment: The rate found on wotif.com is lower than the price advertised on langhomhotels.com

So as I mentioned earlier, with a 25% discount on the matched net rate over 4 nights, I'm quite chuffed!

With the benefits of Voyager things are looking great for November!

Actually, just noticed in the little "box" where it says "Hotel" it says "The Langham, Hong Kong"

I'd have been worried were it not for the LPHK reservations department replying to the BRG claim ;)

I have very similar success for my stay in September, the rates are similar to yours and I also got 25% discount! I am looking forward to stay at LPHK!

As mentioned above, I have a BRG stay in November at Langham Place Hong Kong.

The turn around on my claim was roughly less than 12 hours.

Did you have to reserve the advance purchase rate (lowest possible rate)?

If you booked the flexible rate, was your competing rate nevertheless lower than the advance purchase rate?

I read upthread that one has to book the advance purchase rate to qualify for the BRG...wonder if that's a standard policy for all Langham hotels or if individual hotels have the leeway to make their own rules.

macchiato,

Here is the T&C's for Langham's BRG

AFAIR, the rates were the same booking conditions, best available rates and did not require pre-payment and IIRC, the rates on the competing website - in my case wotif.com - the pre-paid rate on that site was also cheaper than Langham's website.

BRG's appear to be handled by the property you are staying at, I can't confirm this as gospel truth as I've only done the one BRG and it was handled directly with the property, though the claim form was submitted online.

Yeah my failed BRG with Langham Xintiandi, Shanghai was handled by the property itself so there's no centralized BRG Team.

Thanks. I read the BRG T&Cs beforehand and noticed that they did not specifically require booking the lowest rate (which is usually the advance purchase rate) to qualify for the BRG. My understanding as such was that just as long as you compare best flex vs. best flex, then you should be good - even if lower advance purchase rates were available on the Langham website. (I believe that was your experience with Langham Place in Hong Kong.)

However, given that there's no centralized BRG team, it seems like each property is given the leeway to interpret the T&Cs as they see fit, so some hotels are stricter than others. lcpteck's BRG claim with Langham Xintiandi was shot down:

No success as it seems you need to match against Langham's lowest rate (advance purchase rates). They even asked for booking confirmation email from the other provider.

Anyway, good to know LP Hong Kong is pretty lenient. ^

Glad to receive Voyager level for free.

one question about 3rd-party booking, like priceline, orbitz.
Will I still receive for elite benefit, like late checkout or upgrade?

Thanks for sharing experience!

Why not go ahead and try and let us know the answer? I would not think so though...

Yes, probably I will since the price difference is like $80/night now.

Just want to know any existing experience and what I could expect in advance.

Have you booked that rate with the OTA?

If not, I would try a BRG with Langham...

The documentation that came with my card specifically makes reference to direct bookings and those through travel partners - whether they honor it might be a fight, however.

Indeed we filed a BRG and they responded very fast. So we got the discounted rate at Langham Boston.

That's great, which OTA did you use for the lower rate?

I originally use hotels.com, but surprisingly they found a even lower rate at expedia themselves. I was more than happy to accept it.
