lost and found

Is there a place on Flyertalk for lost and found? If not I thought it might be helpful to start one. For example, I know exactly where I left my sun glasses, in the glove compartment of the rental car in Nashville, TN. I called National and yes they have them at the counter. They will send them for $20. not worth it, since I only paid $24.99 for them. However, I said hold them at the counter and I'll have someone pick them up. Well, now I am looking for someone going, BNA - MSP. Or if not, some other FT member and enjoy the sunglasses for free.

Maybe the title could be: Lost and retrieved!

Sorry to get a little off the purpose of your thread. I'd be more upset over the fact National wants to charge you $20.00, which seems to me well over and above the actual cost to handle and ship a pair of sunglasses back to you. I left a set of keys in an Avis rental a couple of months ago, and they mailed them back to me no charge which seems quite a bit more customer friendly.

I would strongly question the charge if I was in your position.

Very good point, since if National looked at my record they would see that I am a very good customer. If fact on this one trip, I rented four different vehicles from them in four different cities. Yes, it would be a good customer service, however the woman I spoke with wanted to charge my credit card.

If at first you don't succeed . . .

Basic rule of FlyerTalkers (useful in nearly all circumstances):

If the customer service representative (CSR) you're talking with isn't being helpful, politely terminate the call and call again. You'll usually get a new CSR (and if you were polite with the first one, he/she may not have put a note in your file) and the new CSR may be more willing to do what you want.

In this case, you might call National again about the glasses, and if they again talk about a $20 fee, mention that you're a good customer, give your Emerald Aisle number, etc., and see if an exception can be made. Most CSRs have some discretion about waiving fees for good customers, or may be able to get a supervisor to waive it for you.

Thanks for the advice. I will give them another call. Just in case they say no, I'll have my UPS account number ready to save a couple of bucks. Send it 5 day ground, bet it will cost much less than $20.

Still think somesort of FT lost and found / retrieved forum would work, especially when you can not get the CSR at certain companies to even check where you think you left an item.

Two suggestions for the OP - you can check the FT itineraries thread for someone going through the airport and/or post a new thread in communitybuzz. Either of those may let you connect with someone who can help you out if an FT is heading that way. G'Luck.

Very interesting idea.

I would have loved to have had this in place last Xmas for the FT Secret Santa. My recipient lives in Berlin and I live in San Francisco. Based on his "helpful hints" I would have LOVED to gift him some wonderful local wines. But after a few weeks of trying, it became clear that there is really no way to ship wine internationally. A local Berlin-bound FTer would have been great (assuming they didn't mind taking gifts from a stranger...)

I would be glad to help out on this end too, should somebody lose something in the area.

There currently is not a thread for such purpose and I can surely appreciate your dilemma. I actually have no input for new forums on FT, just the same as any other member. I do know that in the TalkBoard forum they entertain ideas for new forums all the time and you might consider contacting any of the Talk?/board members directly or simply post your idea in that forum. Ozstamps ot Cholula are two members off the top of my head that you could contact for some help in phrasing your request or idea for a new forum.

My thoughts: doesn't really require a new forum. If his were me i might have contacted the mods in the Community forum, explain my dilemma and see if they could accommodate your post there. In my opinion, it would be the most applicable and unless all our members start losing a lot of things (i have on occasion) it seems a likely post.

hope this helps.

If you have a UPS account, you could mail them the padded envelope, and printed out tag. Probably only $6-8 total. If you include pick up service, it might be double.

To me, it likely has been left in an airport location. Usually the commercial carriers (Fedex, UPS, DHL) have drop boxes and offices in each major airport.
