an OMNI Idea

Sitting here looking at what used to be a great source of information and entertainment, I see a pattern developing here. There are some posts that have the same author answering his own statements. Three, Four, Five entries in a row on the same thread. Then another thread that espouses the same thing, again, three four, five in a row. (Honestly, looking at the posting record of some of these folks, I have no Idea how they hold a job, let alone frequent ANYTHING)

What if there was a limit to the number of new threads and a limit to the number of times that you could post on the thread (along with a breather of four more entries on that thread before you can post again)?

I just get real tired of the same old crap on the same old threads, day after day, after day.

OK, I know, you think BUSH Lied and Kerry will beat him in November, let's PLEASE move on.

This was originally posted in OMNI and was suggested that I move it here.

A better idea!

A better idea would be for you and your small circle of little intolerant friends to find another sandbox to soil with your constant whining.

We're all tired of your endless moderator bashing and complaining about how desperately unfair it is for the right wing nut group to be treated with the disdain they so richly deserve.

Hmmmmmm. Looks like someone's dirtying Randy's forum again and insulting his living room by using a second id.

Coward. Why don't you use your REGULAR id to post this drivel?

I would not categorize my comments as intolerent. Nor do I have a "circle" of friends here.

and I will have to echo Mary's comment. Why the shield on your name, use your real one please.

FWIW, I agree with this post. If the technology allows it, perhaps an hourly flood control? If anything, it might cool down the flame bait, and force folks to think before hitting the enter button. A well-thought-out post debating something is buch better than the bumper sticker rhetoric that gets bantered about there recently. That might cool down the carpal tunnel brigade, or at least the most notorious one or two.

In that case - flood control on Omni only, please.

Hate to think FT would limit the helpful posts on the broad board.

Or maybe I'm missing the point of FT . . . .

I agree wholeheartedly. I find that the Omni-type -attitude seems to carry over to the tone of the other legitimate purposes of FT. Of course, my wish is that Omni could be totally moved to a separate website if it must continue.

I find it very sad that when I refer Flyertalk to people that aren't familiar with it, that I must warn them to be very cautious when posting to avoid being flamed or belittled. Unfortunately, I have found that the worst offenders have been some of the members that have the most posts to their credit and the Moderators that take their sides no matter what the facts actually present.

For some, the point of FT is Omni, with the odd post airline or hotel related.

One difference is the "browse-only" factor. I looked at the different boareds a couple of minutes ago and there were 87 people in UA, 51 in AA, 52 in S.P.A.M., 41 in MR, and 31 in *Wood - and only 22 in Omni. I think it's the nature of the points boards that many registered members and guests browse and find what they need without posting, while Omni's entire raison d'etat is to encourage everyone reading it to join in and post.

Surprising to me OMNI seems to be more tolerant of opinions. I have been able to read more posts and actually post without being attacked. I understand that 90% of OMNI posters already have a position, many radical, and they will not be changing. With this in mind I have been able to be more involved with OMNI. By the way I think that the moderators are doing a great job, considering all the political discussion on OMNI right now.

My, my you've only posted three times and look what we have above. On my third post, I was in awe of how grand FT really is. Heck I'm at over 9000 posts and that awe just keeps on growing.

For all the heated arguments, many people decide to put up with OMNI's dark side so that they can truly appreciate its amusement and the participants' knowledge and wit. Even the most heated discussions eventually cool off since most everyone who likes a good argument recognizes the symbiotic relationship. [Personal attacks in OMNI are far fewer than one would at first anticipate; for that we have the moderators to thank.]

I am a closet Omni dark side member, or at least a infrequent member.

I'd say that the level of personal attacks in OMNI right now is at an all-time high, thanks to a couple of threads that you've started.

But then again, the usual rules will apply - name calling is only okay when you're not naming any particular names or when you are attacking someone that doesn't hold PC ideals.

But what do I know, anyway? I'm just an ignorant, hateful, mindless sheep Republican after all.

Mike
