Sorry, the math in my first post on this thread proves you way wrong. Before I even started this thread - TWENTY times more FT'ers had viewed JonNYC's thread than the previous "most viewed" threads in this Forum, based on Randy's own figure. And it is much higher now. So FT members DO give a large 'rat's behind' about this issue, that much is irrefutable. As to your other supposition - I replied to an email from Randy about 14 hours back re something totally unconnected with the "reputation" silliness. That email bounced back. I just sent it again and the same thing occurred. That has never occurred before with email I have sent him. Unless his address has mysteriously changed from [email protected] (which is where it came from April 23) this is definitely occurring. I can only presume Randy's mailbox is very full with "something"? Perhaps a lot of nervous folks are "confessing" their sins before Monday and asking forgiveness? Who knows. ;) But as always, I could be wrong. --------------------------------------------- Emailed yesterday with him, and had a reply in 10 minutes. |

I don't see why anyone would be upset with Randy... or frantically trying to convince him that this was a huge error on his part... unless there are individuals out there who are embarrassed by what might come out. Personally, I can't wait for Monday to come around. Accountability is a great thing. |

Not only that, Scottie, but I haven't been dinged since the announcement... :D :D :D

I may have been dinged. Or I may have been blinged. I got another of those grey boxes which tell me nothing and it was not accompanied by a comment.
After Monday, I will be able to message these people and ask if they intended a ding or a bling -- then again, I am probably better off not knowing. |
Oz, Scott, if Randy's emails were bouncing back recently it may have been a server issue and not a mailbox full issue. Another poster mentioned yesterday that messages to Janet over at the House of Miles were bouncing back as well -- and folks may get up in arms over this reputation thing but probably aren't filling her box with complaints.
So (1) it is entirely likely that messages to Randy were bouncing, as other messages to their mail server were bouncing and (2) it is unlikely this was because of reputation. |
I have paid almost no attention to this feature. I have never dinged, donged or anything else to another member. I have gotten a few myself, but not very many. Personally, I would drop it.

It seemed over the past couple of days that some of the strange anonymous dinging had been cooling off...
I know I got a whole bunch of dings on the most innocuous of posts, and on some really helpful (I and others thought) posts. It made no sense to me! But it seems to me that reputation was like a new toy, and folks had to try it out, and they may have been a bit overzealous with it. And with a few weeks under all of our belts, it seemed like things were beginning to settle in. Of course this is just from the data points of my own reputation feedback. There were a bunch of bizarre ones and then those stopped, really just a few days ago. My own limited experience might not suggest a trend. But at the moment there aren't any red boxes in my most recent 5. Alas, I'll never know the source of earlier unkindness. Perhaps it's for the best. |

If you think they may have tried to "ding you back", it means you did the honest thing and signed your dings. If you don't know it was them, it means they did the cowardly thing and didn't sign their dings. It's those that didn't, or worse yet signed someone else's handle, that should be sweating. |
