Whatever happened to the FT cookbook?

I don't know where exactly this belongs, but some time ago there was a thread in community where I believe Ling suggested a FT cookbook. As I recall, Randy was keen on the idea, but I haven't seen anything about it since.

Is this still something under consideration? If it is, I would be happy to help with the organization and collecting recipes.

Well a lot of us have launched very serious weight loss/work out programs in the past few months.

How exciting can recipies for grilled chicken, grilled fish, salad and vegetables really be?

That book, Rudi, is in my kitchen. Do you think I would ever part with it? Shoot I had to throw out half my clothes to find room in my one roll aboard to get it home, via London, New York, Washington D.C., and back to New York on my way home to Seattle.

A 9 day trip with one roll aboard and a big old cookbook, filled with so many gorgeous pictures of food that I gain weight every time I look at it.

Actually, since the book frequently specifies olive oil, and olive oil is acceptable on my food program, there are many recipies there that I can use. It also, however, has many beautiful recipies that use cream, butter, flour and lots of other yummy stuff that is not allowed on my program, so there are times when I just can't look at that book. I don't that much will power, or is it won't power.

On the 18th of October I will have a free day at home and have a recipie from that book that I want to try. I will post the results.

I'm still keen on the cookbook, but the 'kids' have been so crabby lately I haven't had time to give the project it's due. So, shall we organize a committee and get going? I'm sure I can get the tech guys here to build a quick recipe interface to enter recipes as well as allow members to look up and categorize them for use over time. Any ideas on where to start?

Again, sorry for the delay. Now that I've put a few of the 'kids' down for their nap perhaps i can get involved again.

OK, Randy, I volunteer to be in charge of healthy recipies, but will toss in a few to die for old-country family recipies that have no regard whatever for cholesterol or calories. Hunki's Mom had a cousin who cooked fr Franz Josef of Austria. Of course, these recipies assume that you have a staff of 66 to help with the preparations.

Actually, Hunki and Peregrine are the star cooks in this family, so I will steal some of their recipies for the book as well.

. As quoted by Randy Petersen: "I have a killer carrot cake recipe from a cousin and i have a very simple dump cake recipe which we use a lot around the office"
I am more interested in the "killer carrot cake" recipe and the "simple dump cake recipe" than an entire cookbook.

Hush your mouth - I can't believe you posted this.

You must be on a low-cal/low-fat diet. Despite that, a low-fat diet CAN be extremely tasty and satisfying - try to find a copy of Mediterranean Light, by Martha Rose Shulman (who devised the low-fat menu which Dean Ornish's cardiology patients followed during his studies on diet/cardiology); she grills not just chicken and fish, but rabbit, and even beef! If you like Southern Italian or Lebanese or Middle Eastern food, "chicken, grilled fish, salad and vegetables" is the way to go.

Actually, anonplz, I was kidding. I do, however, have an extremely efficient metabolism and am certain that if there were a famine, I would still be trying to lose 5 pounds after everybody else had long expired. Hunki, on the other hand, has an extremely inefficient metabolism and can eat 4 or 5 times as much as I and still look slim and trim.

It has helped me a great deal over the years to just train myself that things I really shouldn't eat aren't really food--fried foods, sweets, etc. This allows me to focus on really healthy food: veggies, fruit, grilled chicken, grilled fish, olive oil, brown rice and red wine, all of which fall within level one or two of Michi's Ladder (the food guide for our health program), basically all very healthy non-processed foods. The only processed food I eat is Slim Fast for breakfast, but that is mostly because I am always in a hurry and Slim Fast and a banana is a lot better than nothing for starting the day.

You are most certainly right that there are tons and tons of wonderful, tasty recipies that one can make with just healthy ingredients. I made a really killer halibut and asparagus risotto last week and the best mixed salad I believe that I have ever tasted.

Rudi gave me what has to be the world's very best olive oil and balsamic vinegar a while back and while the olive oil is long gone, I am hoarding the vinegar and treat myself on special occasions. I will post what the brand is when I get back home. We are at the Westing LAX right now.

Hunki says it is time to go work out.

As our community grows and we get more and more members from all over the world -- a cookbook sounds like fun! I'd love to try some recipies with international flair!

With a little luck you'll have your cookbook up within a week or two. Two members posting to this thread have taken a look at the recipe engine and given the go-ahead to finish. At some point in time we'll download all the recipes and print to a bound cookbook - but that takes many recipes. So get your measuring cups ready. The only problem I see is the conversion of measurements. I know every time I sneak a recipe from a hotel in London it's a pain to convert to measurements I can understand. Probably the same for the English. But we'll have to make do. I want the recipe for the mango with coconut ice cream from the Thai on the River restaurant there in London (Chelsea Harbor). Good enough for me to eat in and then order more for take awayall with no apologies to my diet.

Anyway, hope the recipe/cookbook works for everyone. Still more to come.
