This has to be about the saddest and most desperate thing I have ever seen anyone do on FT. "Vote for me on TalkBoard and I promise not to EVER post on this Forum".

Avek00 did stick to his word, (as did all others involved AFAIK) and gave the UA board and moderators some peace and quiet for many weeks as promised earlier in this thread. And it was appreciated.

The past week or so he is back just as strong as ever, spreading unsubstantiated fiction, plain inventions and all other kinds of untrue nonsense .... so same old, same old.

I really wonder why he did not make the same pledge to the folks on the UA board as this one he did on the AA board below? He might have got 1000s of votes had he done so. This was soon locked of course, as were his TWO attempts on the CO board to blatantly electioneer.

The AAvek AAdvantage...

"I hereby pledge that should I be elected to the TalkBoard, I will refrain from posting any comments on the American Airlines forum, WITHOUT EXCEPTION. The refrain will last for the duration of my TalkBoard tenure. Furthermore, I will insist that the posting restriction be incorporated into my terms and conditions as a TalkBoard member, such that any breach of this commitment on my part would constitute sufficient grounds for my removal from the TalkBoard".

You know that's amazingily similar to the "protection" schemes that members of organized crime go to jail for.

Pay me each week and we'll make sure no one busts your windows or sets fire to your store.

Well we've certainly hit a new low here on FT now.

The only "new low" is that certain FTers have committed themselves to attacking myself and a few other FTers at every turn, no matter the topic.

Gleff, are you suggesting Omni should be shut down?

No, but I think it's not a bad idea.

Just let it go, Glenn.

avek00 is going to be avek00. United screwed him and now he takes his revenge by scewing United in the United Forum.

Many have said "just ignore him" and I pretty much have taken that advice to heart. I've tried to rationaly debate him, but usually he ignores me for others who prefer to just rise to his bait.

He seldom has anything of value to add to discussions outside of Continental, so use your inate "power of filtering" and ignore any comment he makes you take offense with. He'll either get bored and stop making them, or we'll become so adept at ignoring him, it will be like he did get bored and stopped making them.

We could "fight fire with fire" and go into the Continental forum and making random snide comments about Continental on every thread, but why play the hypocrite?

In the end, smacking him around makes us look as stupid as him and does nothing but force the moderators to close threads that had legtimiate dialog going on.

Banning avek00 from FlyerTalk is not the answer. Censorship is never the answer. I once made a dumb**** snide comment on the American forum (an airline I have never flown) and was rightfully called on it by JonNYC and a few other regulars.

In addition to avek00's "work" in UA and AA, there appear to be other brouhahas going on between certain parties in the Air Canada and Star forums, not to mention the latest thread on "what to do with doc?"

Ya just have to live and let live, people. In any community, there will be disruptive elements. If it gets too extreme, there are "laws" (the ToS) to address it and "enforcers" (Randy and the admins) to mete out punnishment. But I really don't see avek00's actions warranting anything more than our neglect to reply to them.

The difference is, whatever you said (and I don't remember the incident-- hope I wasn't too harsh) you a) said it b) were "called out on it" c) learned from it. (Not trying to be condescending, BTW.)

The other member you reference repeatedly, consistently and intentionally goes into forums of airlines he doesn't fly and makes obnoxious, ill-informed, rude and immature comments as a regular, everyday event. Like in the Terminator "it's what he does-- it's all he does!"

I've made more than my share of dumb, snide and rude comments-- but I don't wake up each day trying to figure out how to be dumber, snider and more rude.

I was 20 when I was his age-- I know it's only natural to think you know everything at that age-- but I wouldn't have behaved the way he does. I personally don't see why we have to put up with it.

Because we're "bigger" then him?

Can we even "ban" avek00? Can he not just re-register with a different address and come back to annoy us? And if he can, do we then let him do the same actions for six months as avek01 before we ban him?

Or do we institute a "one strike and you're out" policy? Does that mean if I ever make another snide comment on the American forum, I'm gone because I did it before?

And if we ban avek00, do we then ban parnel and MapleLeaf for their roundabouts in the Air Canada forum?

Do we ban doc for all his constant posts in OMNI? Do we ban B747-437 for his comments in the Trip Report that smacked around some FlyerTalkers for their attitudes towards non-frequent flyers? And do we ban techgirl for making disparaging comments about non-frequent fliers a few months back that started a thread firestorm?

I'm with you 100%, JonNYC that avek00's sniping and sniding offers as little to discussions on FlyerTalk as the ad hominem (sic) attacks launched against him for acting the way he does.

I am just not sure there is a "cure-all" we can impose that will have any lasting effect outside of just acting as if he never posted.

There are no roundabouts on the Air Canada forum. I decided after the last email exchange with RP to simply ignore everything Parnel says about me - including his latest "slam" against me today. He does not like me, that is obvious but I will not bow to his criticism / attacks. It is only a roundabout if I comment back, and I just walk away... much healthier all around.

I agree with your sentiments.

From now on, I have decided to simply call out & denounce a personal attack whenever one is made against me. Beyond that, I refuse to satisfy the personal attacker any further. I am hopeful that once the new TalkBoard is in place (regardless of whether I'm a part of it), that the group of frequent personal attackers who have decided to target myself and several others will be decisively dealt with.

As someone who has just made personal 'ad hominem' attacks on me you are a fine person to be standing on such a high horse. Talk about pot-kettle-black.

Recalling the posting/behavioral record of a frequent attacker and vowing to take action against frequent personal attackers does not in itself constitute a personal attack.

So it's not the pot calling the kettle black. It's more like determined villagers standing up to the plunderers for a change.

Well 'determined villager', all but you regard them as personal attacks:
