Why not an event only for good-looking, single, straight, cool people under 30?

And for the guys, a high female-to-male ratio. Or vice-versa.

Isn't that what you really meant?

But I meant it to be a social event for younger age travelers. I'm not trying to be rude but if we go bar/club hopping and there are a bunch of married 45 yr old with a bunch of single 25 yrs olds(and a few married one sprinkled in) going out to a nice restaurant then to the bars/club and on the town it might change the atmosphere. </font>
Sounds like you are trying to arrange a singles event - tacky is the word that immediately comes to mind.

Sounds like a good idea, just not Jun20-22--unless you want to do it in Vegas. Throw up some ideas as to destinations and a date, and I am sure we can come up with something fun.

I think you are not making a good argument for being so "exclusive".

What I get from this is a "I want to go to a trendy restaurant followed by a night out at the clubs and I'm worried that some of you folks might cramp my style" event.

If that is the case, simply post what you meant and be done with it.

It is your DO. You can plan whatever you want.

We have had in the past singles DOs, GLBT DOs, DOs that included expensive dinners, DOs revolving around heavy alcohol consumption, DOs that required a visa to visit a certain country, DOs that required flying a certain airline, DOs that appealed to a certain age group, and DOs that appealed to everyone.

You can't please all the people all the time. What disappoints me is that rather than posting what it seems you meant, you put an arbitrary cap on who can/can't attend a DO based on age.

Just a friendly suggestion and it is worth less than the two cents I'm putting in. Pick your city (NYC, LA, whatever) and pick the places you want to go.

Then post the DO on a new thread without sticking a qualifyer about age, gender, ethnicity, sexual preference, etc. on there.

Those who like the activity will come... those who won't will not.

You might just be surprised at who you meet. And I'm willing to bet you will get a much warmer response without several mocking threads posted too.

On the other hand, if you are so exclusive to say that you have no interest meeting or hanging around anything but a certain category of FTers then you might want to just go ahead and be explicit about that too... and save the rest of us the trouble.

PS... I know many FTers who are *almost* old enough to be my parents... and all can stay up later than me, outdrink me, and are much more energetic on the dance floor than I am.

I don't think it is ONLY the "under 30" aspect that bothers people.

Consider also the original poster's FT handle and the website it refers to.

my name and the website it refers to is irrevalent. i am not asking people about their looks and please dont imply that. it was a simple request to get a flyertalk 20s get together for a one time event.. whoever wants to go reply back.. whoever doesn't or is much older please leave this thread alone. simple as that.

Agree. Selective criteria, sometimes seemingly arbitrary selective criteria...nothing wrong with that when planning a social event for specific reasons. Many major tour companies even have "Under 30" group things where you actually have to provide proof of your age to join.

Let them have their party. Feeling left out? Go start your own. No big deal. Want it to be just United flyers? Great! Who wants to party with those VIPOW people when you want to trade sex for SWUs anyway? Wanna over 50s only party where the music volume is low enough to have conversations while you're all getting your Rachmaninoffs? I say capitalize and bold the announcement and GO FOR IT!

Personally I consider it a tad rude to try to crash someone else's party if you don't fit the criteria they've already stated. It's their party, after all.

If you are 40 something and think you really have a body like a 28 year old (like Jailer used to) and want a "waiver" that bad, email the host privately, perhaps attaching several nude shots for downloading review. Just don't feel insulted if the host sez "Sorry, but you remind me too much of my father."

Otherwise...move along folks. There's nothing to see here.

IMHO.

P.S. I only entered this thread in hopes of some voyeuristic and juicy cheap thrills (yawn...very disappointed so far). I had my "under 30" parties and relish the memories all the more as it was "just us."

I think it should be an event for ANY FlyerTalker who can make it, age is truly irrelevant (I know some FTers who are 20 that feel like 40 and who are 60 who feel like 20, so its all relative).

I still vote for LA though (not just because I will be there in the mid June, but because I think we can do much better in LA, in terms of variety of reasonably priced hotels and deals to get there...miles miles!!!)

However, if everyone decided on NYC I will try my best to make it! And I promise to look good for those FTers who just wants to see the good looking people!

Some of the over-30 crowd seems to be very sensitive about their age, and overly judgmental, as well.

Age may be just a number, and absolutely no determinant of values, interests, or much else of true significance, but it does lead to a greater likelihood of currently shared life experiences.

Two of the most obvious are rental car rates, and "discrimination" in treatment, elite status notwithstanding, by airline personnel and even fellow passengers, perhaps even including some participants on this board, though I hope not.

The idea for an "Under 30 Do" ["Young Travelers Do" for the more politically correct] originated in the midst of a thread on the Continental board involving just such a sharing of the frequent minor disrespect shown to young elite frequent fliers compared to their elders.

See looking young & being elite
(1 May 2003 post)
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum.../007937-2.html

I know, people in their thirties don't like to be considered "old," which is what I'm sure contributes to some of the angst and outrage.

I myself no longer qualify for inclusion in the "Under 30 Do," and indeed am old enough to have been aware of the slogan "Don't trust anyone over 30!" during the decade of its original use.

Come on folks, get off your high horses! I know from personal experience that groups as ideologically disparate as the Sierra Club, the Republican Party, and the American Bar Association each have youth components (though a "young" lawyer is under 35 (36?) or has less than 5 years practicing, so you can once again be young, Kathy, if you want to go to law school first!

Another motive for an "Under 30 Do" is to attract FlyerTalkers who may not be interested in meeting with a bunch of people old enough to be their parents or older cousins, at least not for their first Do. Has it even occurred to anyone that they might even be uncomfortable, insecure, or even "afraid" of doing so?

[Sorry, "kids" (!) ]

Hence, while I don't think anyone would call the cops if us over-30 folks crash the party, if too many do it, that would defeat the whole purpose if the people who wish to meet their age cohort are drowned in a sea of gray hair.

Don't get me started on the self-deception, intellectual dishonesty, and even fraud of those who participate in the hair coloring industry. That is a thread for OMNI.

Given the debate that has erupted over what I consider to be an excellent idea -- dislocating my shoulder trying to pat myself on the back for my small input into the process -- whenever you guys finally decide a location, I'd start a separate thread.
