If on a RTW you transit on a continent does it count as a visit?

I just having a little char with AA RTW desk urgent ticket
cutting ticket short main stops - E-NA-SWP-E
OSL-DOH-MIA-LAX-NAN-BNE-DOH-OSL
what are they counting it as a DONE4 not 3 when no wheels touch down in Asia?
They say even if you fly over a continent it Counts......
I've done the ring back and got someone else and same....

You mean that he can slot in a BNE-HKG-NRT-SYD-BNE in the middle of the trip [1] or do you mean he could then do DOH-HKG-HND-DOH at [2]? I presume {1}... or is this a way to get a more interesting kind of Asia / Australia routing (I often do DONE4s that visit both Asia and Australia)

Can you book OSL to US then Australia and back to OSL as a DONE3 or will it always trigger a DONE4 with Asia? Not a lost of difference cost wise but curious if it is possible. Thanks.
