Simultaneous RTWs: any reason to be concerned?
I am about to start a DONE3 ex-JFK and an AONE3 ex-ICN. Both are paid for and ticketed. Yesterday, I received a voicemail from AA's RTW desk saying that because of my overlapping RTWs, one would cancel automatically, and I needed to call them back ASAP to fix the problem. Looking over the itineraries, I see the only potential problem is that the two tickets have me in different parts of the world at the same time. (This, of course, is not a real problem, as I parked certain segments in dates that will change when I decide when I actually want to travel.)
I called the AA RTW desk this morning. The agent checked with a supervisor and said that because both tickets are paid for and ticketed, there's no problem. But while that's comforting, I'm a little concerned about the first message I got. Is there any reason for concern?

I can't see what the problem might be. Are both tickets on AA stock? If so you might have the RTW desk put a note in both PNRs to the effect that you have 2 outstanding RTW tickets in use simultaneously and that it's been koshered with AA. That way if anybody flags it later you can point them to the note in the record(s).

If you're only using certain segments to hold them and will later change the dates, I would rejigger things that so you're only in one place at a time. IMO, you're just asking for trouble with that one. Even if RTW desk says that it's technically OK, it probably happens seldom enough that the res system might not be programmed to understand, and one of the rezzies might be cancelled automatically.

I would only see an issue if you have say JFK-LHR (or similar popular legs) booked in premium cabins a day apart or so. This is likely to be flagged as multiple reservations under the same name and you may get once cancelled.

I am constantly using several RTWs at the same time - usually 2 or 3 open. Mine are typically BA or CX tickets. I also combine them with other round trips in between. Never a problem. Currently i am in Hong Kong on one RTW, in Saigon on a second one, in Germany on an Star award, in LA on a second star award and in Saigon again on an inner vietnamese round trip.
