I still haven't seen evidence of this - I have happily ticketed and used xONEx using city codes previously and have no evidence that this is not still possible using paper tickets and open segments.

I was aware of that discussion. But I didn't know that translated to being able to return to co-terminals to get around the originating point condition. So are you saying that I could depart IAD, go around the world and return to DCA and then could use my remaining segments for a round trip ex-DCA to somewhere in the US? If so that is great news, well perhaps not news to all of you, but to me! No matter how long I hang out on these boards I learn something new all the time. A few years back, I was told by the AA ATW desk that that was not allowed. Of course they may well have been wrong back then. That was before I knew the FT mantra to "call again".

I interpreted Dr HFH's post as clarifying that the connecting flight at LHR would need to be an AA metal flight in order to be able to book an AA codeshare on a BA flight from/to LHR. Clearly on a RTW will not be able to do this for both LHR-DXB and DXB-LHR.

Have you actually managed to get an xONEx ticketed on paper recently? While I have had a few paper tickets since the supposed 100% etickets were introduced, none of them have been for RTW or alliance products.

Yes - my current AONE3 ticketed in August is on paper. All you have to do is insist on one or more Open segments.

Confirmed here, too. I get my xONEx tix from Mindpearl in CPT. An itinerary with all confirmed flights gets an e-ticket, but if it contains an open segment, they will only issue a paper ticket, and it's on one of the old handwritten forms complete with red carbon.

This appears to be primarily an AA thing. This has been discussed previously, and most major airlines appear to be able to cope with open segments on e-tickets. I just hope that when I get to present my red carbon coupons I don't meet the response: "Oh, these aren't valid any more - it's only e-tickets now". With the frequently-experienced low level of staff training, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

We had no trouble with paper coupons on 8 segments covering CX, AA and BA in September.
