Paper ticket question re: carrier change
I just want to confirm what I think is the case. I'm holding a paper-ticketed (machine printed) 20-segment DONE5. I have belatedly realized that once I make AA Platinum I won't earn double-miles with either JL or BA. For some of my routes, I don't have any real alternative; however, for HKG-LHR I have several other options (CX, QF).
Given that our open-dated paper coupons say BA for this route, if I ultimately reserve seats on CX (I'm still waiting for the inventory to load for the date I want), do I need to do anything ahead of time with my open-dated paper *BA* coupons, or can I just show up at the CX desk with my BA coupon and say, "May I have my boarding pass, please?" The AA RTW desk says "don't worry," but I nevertheless worry.
My concern is that if I did need to get some sort of new paper coupon for this segment in order to fly a different carrier that there would be a problem doing so post-June 1, 2008, because of the new rule.
Many thanks.

It will not require a re-issue but it needs to get stickered by CX. So just showing up at check-in might work but it will be better to go to their ticketing counter first.

Oh, oh - I changed QF25 to AA7315 MELAKL on my AA issued DONE4, same metal but is technically a carrier change nonetheless. To get it stickered I have to mail my ticket to the AA office in SYD as there's obviously no AA CTO or ATO I can access in MEL.
The AA code is preferable as for some reason the QF segments have not been posting miles automatically apart from JFK-SYD which was booked under the AA code.
I thought the coupons are freely endorsable though?
If not, does the QF intl ticket desk in MEL handle ticketing for oneworld partners? I remember seeing large logos of lots of OW carriers there....
Otherwise might be easier to swap back to QF25 and deal with retroactive mileage claim me thinks.

Every time I have needed stickered, which has been very, very rare for carrier changes, they have done it on the spot. Usually, the carrier just took the ticket and moved on. The two stickers out of 20 or 25 changed carriers were on AY (only flew them once) and once on BA. I was told AY was common. It actually wasn't a change of carrier, it was an open ticket that they stickered to have a date when I checked in.

That said, I would still have to assume that there would be a problem on many routes.

Thank you for the replies. So, the only route I think this will come up for me is HKG-LHR. Assuming I'm going to take the CX flight rather than the BA one, and given that my ticket is an open-dated BA ticket, is the answer that I should show up at the CX ticket counter and just expect them to sticker the ticket? Is that the sort of thing they're going to fight/try to charge me on?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Don't CX charge a "service fee" of something like HK$300 for the reservation? Not a fortune, I know, but it adds up if they charge this for each segment.
