Paper ticket question re: carrier change

I just want to confirm what I think is the case. I'm holding a paper-ticketed (machine printed) 20-segment DONE5. I have belatedly realized that once I make AA Platinum I won't earn double-miles with either JL or BA. For some of my routes, I don't have any real alternative; however, for HKG-LHR I have several other options (CX, QF).

Given that our open-dated paper coupons say BA for this route, if I ultimately reserve seats on CX (I'm still waiting for the inventory to load for the date I want), do I need to do anything ahead of time with my open-dated paper *BA* coupons, or can I just show up at the CX desk with my BA coupon and say, "May I have my boarding pass, please?" The AA RTW desk says "don't worry," but I nevertheless worry.

My concern is that if I did need to get some sort of new paper coupon for this segment in order to fly a different carrier that there would be a problem doing so post-June 1, 2008, because of the new rule.

Many thanks.
