Korea expenxive for DONE!

I just got the pricing back for a DONE4 exICN from the AA office in Seoul!

I was quite shocked that the price before taxes and Q charge was US$7202...

That makes it similar to Australia I think....I'll be looking elsewhere- CMB or TPE I think.

While I didn't think it was the cheapest place to get a DONE, I didn't think it was going to be that expensive!

I'll look at CMB and TPE now I think....

NRT is US$600 cheaper than TPE, CMB about US$600 cheaper than NRT.

I actually emailed the CX office in CMB a little before Christmas, and I am still waiting to hear back from them

I called today, but the message said the office was closed...maybe there was a public holiday there.

I'll try them again tomorrow. Hope I can get a ticket- either DONE3 or 4 under 5000USD...

Considering that the base fare for a DONE4 ex-CMB is a little over $5000 before taxes maybe you should look at WearyBizTraveler's Excel RTW Spreadsheet. Looking at the spreadsheet you could have seen that Korea was not going to be in your ballpark.

That makes it similar to Australia I think....I'll be looking elsewhere- CMB or TPE I think.
The final price you were quoted ex-INC for a DONE4 is similar to a DONE4 ex-SYD before you add the taxes and fuel surcharges which are substantial to the ex-Australia base price. Again, if you look at the spreadsheet and then add 10 to 20 percent for taxes you have an approximation of the final fare give or take a few hundred depending upon your specific routing and the carriers you choose.

Interestingly, Korea is now back up there in the cheapest stakes within Asia.

Based on a half-hacked version of Weary-Biz spreadsheet with prices updated based on the OW site and currency updated (as of 24-Apr) I get the following.
AA ticketing offices based on : http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?...ckets/main.jsp (nb no longer shows an Australian office)

In USD (for Asia Pac regions) (apart from Sth Africa and only included because it is so cheap) (Sorted by DONE 4 pricing - in USD)

Code:
              	DONE3	DONE4	DONE5	DONE6	AA office
South Africa	na	5,175	5,868	6,866	Yes
Pakistan	5,925	6,671	7,673	8,823	Yes
Indonesia	5,928	6,779	7,725	8,630
Korea 5,692	6,784	7,797	8,796	Yes
Philippines	6,134	7,022	8,001	8,925	Yes
Sri Lanka	6,244	7,119	8,186	9,323	Yes
Bangladesh	6,324	7,152	8,388	9,348
Japan 6,365	7,207	8,267	9,486	Yes
India 6,694	7,643	8,790	10,008	Yes
Taiwan 6,938	7,867	9,047	10,405	Yes
Thailand 6,974	8,113	9,346	9,967	Yes
New Zealand	na	8,427	9,619	11,026
China 7,521	8,475	9,865	11,004	Yes
Hong Kong	7,713	8,705	9,920	10,851	Yes
Australia	na	9,904	11,036	12,356
(Note. Didn't realise this thread was so old - anyway provides updated pricing for all.)

There is a Sydney AA office on O'Riordan St. There;s just no public access to it which is probably why it's not listed. But they will ticket ex-Oz xONExs. You'd have to call the Aussie reservations hotline which diverts to indiAA for now, but the call centre will soon be moved to BNE.

I should also note that Korea becomes even more attractive from 2-Jun due to the new AY ICN-HEL flight which means not having to burn a segment to get back to HKG, SIN or NRT in order to leave Asia

Don't forget BKK. No longer the cheapest (by far), but does give freedom to move in and out of NRT and HKG to mop those last few xONEx segments before the run home (and BA award flights BKK-SYD are usually quite easy to get (so long as you can predict when they will be released).

Be aware that the DONE4 price ex NRT on the OW site is wrong (and has been for some time - they appear to be pulling from an old file). It says the price is Y743,200 but it should be Y780,400, so rather nearer $7,500 rather than $7,200 ..... unless, of course, they have in fact rolled back last year's price increase, which somehow I very much doubt.

Now we are living in Korea again (after 8 months in Australia), glad to see the relative price drop here! The Korean Government also has limits on the fuel charges that can put on tickets issued in Korea. This may make it even better value than exNRT. There is the need to get an extra flight if one wants to use BA to Europe though (ICN to NRT or HKG)
