Ticketing and starting a ONE from India

I don’t recall people here discussing experiences about ticketing and starting a RTW in India. I will have ended a current RTW in DAR in October and need to be in India in early November so after a QR flight to get to Delhi, it seems logical to start the next RTW from there. I note that a DONE4 ex-DEL is about the same price as ex-NRT, which I know is commonly done. Although Indonesia is cheaper still, it doesn’t seem worth going there to start it . Any experiences with a ONE originating in DEL?

The reason we don't see many RTWs starting in India is that although the base price is reasonable the luxury tax payable on J/F fares is not. There are a few threads on the subject.

Thanks for these reminders- I had forgotten. I just checked with the Cathay North America desk and confirmed that the luxury tax (12.36%) still applies. Back to the drawing board.

Based on the oneworld.com pricing, a DONE4 ex-Qatar is only some $400 more expensive than ex-Delhi, before tax. That might suit your needs.

There was a relevant thread a couple of months back.
