Date Change Issue - DONE5
I am having a little bit of difficulty in changing the date on my next flight. My wife and I are currently ticketed and confirmed in J on QF648 leaving Perth for Melbourne on Monday night. I am trying to change it to QF802 on Tuesday morning. (Availability as of Friday afternoon WA-time is D4.) I missed catching AA's RTW desk before they closed for the day Thursday night. AA's main reservation line say they can't help me as it's an RTW issue. QF say they can't see the ticket in their system (it's a paper ticket) and therefore they can't authorize the change over the phone. Are my only two options calling AA's RTW desk during their office hours or going to the airport in Perth? I won't be in Perth until mid-day Sunday, which might be too late to get the desired seats in D inventory. (I having too much fun enjoying the vino in Margaret River!
)
Thanks

If you phone QF, you can make the change though QF will say that it is "subject to sighting of the ticket" to verify that the change is valid; when AA opens , you can get them to confirm the change if you wish or get QF to do it when u get to the airport

I don't understand why this is difficult. Call QF reservations and ask for a reservation in D on the appropriate flight and quote the ticket number to them. Ask them to cancel the reservation on the earlier flight. This is how it works with CX, AA and BA. I must admit I haven't tried it with QF, but I can't see why it would be any different.
Or get a tame travel agent to make the new reservation for you and enter the ticket number. In this case all you need to do is make sure that AA cancels the previous segements before you no-show them to avoid the rest of the itinerary being cancelled.
Yet again, I say that if your plans are less than 99% certain, get the ticket issued open-dated and keep the reservation(s) separate. There's no harm in splitting the trip up into multiple PNRs as well just to minimize the damage from any cock-ups.

Alterntately, try calling AA in another country. The UK, French, Swedish or even Australian AAgents have been able to change my XONEX tickets in the past, without even the slightest mention of the RTW desk.
It's only the US based agents that are so restricted.

I have a paper ticket, which was issued using 6 packets of coupons. I am not sure if this impacted the response or not, but the first time I tried to change dates on two flights with QF in Australia, the agent I spoke to on the phone couldn't find the ticket # and wouldn't change the dates without the proper ticket #. He suggested that I call AA's RTW desk. The AA agent (US based ) I talked to 15 minutes after the RTW desk closed
couldn't help me as he said he "wasn't trained" in RTW issues. Following Dave Noble's advice, I did succeed in changing it subject to a valid ticket coupon being presented at check-in.
