Rumours about LAN

Recently heard about LAN:

* LAN Argentina soon to fly to MIA, GRU & MVD. Next year to MAD.
* LAN Colombia very much 'on ice' at the moment.
* LAN to have a hub in MAD (trying to get more info on this)
* 3 new aircraft, for USA, EUR & SWP.
* More daily flights SWP.
* KE & CX Codeshares.
* No current plans for SCL-LAX direct.

Most of the above is rumours, speculation, conjecture, whisperings and half-truths, so don't shoot the messenger if any/all prove to be false.

Viajero, as you have your finger on the pulse is there any news on whether Lan Argentina will be considered part of OW? I am there later this year and wouldn't mind clocking up a few miles on domestic flights.

My contacts are not privy to OW plans afecting LAN, but I have to say that IMO it is very unlikely that LAN Argentina will join the alliance, basically because LAN's stake is less than 50%, due to foreign ownership laws currently applicable in Argentina. It seems to me fair to assume that if LAN Ecuador (also 49% owned by LAN) did not make it into OW then neither will LAN Argentina.

I guess this confirms more of what I had recently posted. Any info on the AC they are going to get? More 763s? 340s?

I'm trying to get that info. So far all I 'know' (insert usual discalimer here) is the number of aircraft: 4 freighters, 3 passenger.

Two A340 and one B767 (the 767 could be a 777).

I've never used LAN but from reading the mail here it sounds like it's impossible to get them to follow xONEx rules, and they're unpleasant people to boot. Did I get the wrong impression?

LAN can be 'difficult' when it comes to having your OWE reissued, yes, but AFAIK that is as far as it goes in terms of negatives, unless of course you are referring to something else?

They can be sticklers with handwritten tickets, particularly with regard to taxes, but, even if they do ask for more taxes, it is only a few bucks and not worth getting upset over. Once you enter the a/c, LAN's service is outstanding, offering, in my opinion, the finest F meal service in Oneworld.

The trick I found last year is that LA in SCL has to reprice the RTW in US$ regardless of the original currency. That allows them to re-issue the ticket properly.

Of course when I did it they change the aircraft to remove F but gave me compensation for the downgrade

I thought one additional problem was that they made it very difficult to get A seats. (Also that the incidence of serious rudeness on the ground was unacceptably high.) We actually leave any thoughts of SA out of travel plans because I think the sum of what I have read here adds up to "they're really quite a PITA to OWE travelers".

But this is also the same ownership structure as LanPeru, i.e. 49% owned by LAN, and 51% by Peruvians - and yet LanPeru made it into OneWorld. IMO, Argentina is too important a market for Lan's newest subsidiary to be left out of OneWorld... that, and I'd like to be able to earn QF FF points on them...

Actually, that's not true. LA owns considerably more than 50% of LP.

And as far as being a PITA to OWE travelers, I have taken probably 40-50 flights over the years with LA and only had one problem which was actually my fault and not theirs. I disagreed with the decision but understood why it was made (visa issue). Not saying my experiences are normal, but I do think each person's experiences vary. Frankly, I have had far more problems with QF than LA and will not fly QF unless necessary. But then there's others that have had good experiences with QF who would think I am nuts.
