Routing Changes to RTW during travel
I am in Australia on an AA-issued RTW, and would like to make route changes for later this month. I have had little help when I telephoned AA here (she can't even view the reservation in her computer), and QANTAS also can't see entire reservation and directs me back to AA. (Even at airport, QANTAS can't help with AA flights, they say). What I will do is call the AA RTW desk in the USA (on my dime from New Zealand), make the booking changes, and then hope I can handle the reticketing during a 2-hour layover in LAX.
Anyone have similar experience or suggestions?
Thanks.

Ask the AA RTW desk not only to change the bookings but also to set up the new ticket for reissue. I have done similar through them with a CAI-issued ticket which I needed rerouting while in the US, and the RTW desk were very efficient. When I got to the ticket desk at the airport (JFK in my case) everything was ready to go and I had my new ticket in about 20 mins.

I've had a lot of experiences with RTW re-issues, and they don't all go so smoothly... even when the RTW desk has supposedly pre-greased everything.
Sometimes, everything goes well, and it's done in five minutes. Other times, well.... other times, I've:
a) inadvertently caused 3 pax standing in line behind me to miss their flight as the ticket agent flails away (without success) for over an hour;
b) almost missed a flight when the savvy agent at the (now closed) Platinum Service Center kept thinking "she was almost there;" (I made the flight, but missed the reissue thanks to her putting me in a special services cart and flying down the concourse straight to the gate); and
c) finally got it accomplished by leaving it overnight at ABQ where different people could experiment on getting it done.
Apparently, all the different taxes are what cause the problems. Unless everything balances out correctly, SABRE won't spit a new ticket out.

Trying to sort it out by phone can sometimes be a hassle if not dealing directly with the AA RTW desk in the US.
