Consolidated lounge at IAD?

I wonder if 1W is considering a consolidated lounge at IAD? There are now several 1W carriers serving the airport, and the lounge availability seems limited. BA: to LHR; QR: to DOH; CX: to HKG; IB: to MAD; AA: to DFW, CLT, and LAX.

It will either have to be somewhere quite remote or something else has to give, e.g. gate space, retail space, or one of the carrier lounges goes away.

That creates a brand standard issue as well. Would BA eliminate its lounge and then lose a separate F & Concorde section? Would other carriers which do not serve IAD or are looking to eliminate their F service, subsidize a specialized F section?

Not likely soon, based on this report---> https://www.executivetraveller.com/n...s-to-late-2020
Oneworld is now unlikely to open the first of its own-branded airport lounges until late 2020, although an announcement on the location of that debutante lounge could come early next year.

The airline alliance announced plans to develop its own lounge network, along the same lines as rivals Star Alliance and SkyTeam, in February 2019, with the intent of an inaugural ribbon-cutting in the second half of 2019 and two more lounge openings likely to follow in 2020.

Physical space, for xx people at the same time, will always be a problem to solve. If the OW airlines have flights departing at similar times crowding will be an issue. Long haul flight can leave at similar times due to time zones, airport curfews and trying to have arrival and/or departure times as semi sociable times. That is for example ~02:00 arrival / departure are never popular if there are alternatives.

Also airlines will have commercial agreements, with varying end dates, for rent of existing lounge space in airports and with lounge operators (if not own lounge).

First oneworld branded and managed lounges to be rolled out

oneworld is also ramping up co-location activities at key airports around the world and will unveil its first alliance-branded and managed lounge later this year – with more to be rolled out progressively thereafter.

Collectively, oneworld member airlines offer more than 650 airport lounges worldwide, with many often named among the best in the industry. All of these lounges are currently owned, branded and operated by oneworld member airlines individually or by third-parties on their behalf. At some airports, several oneworld member airlines offer multiple lounges, even in the same terminals, all accessible to the alliance’s top-level customers.
