Generally about 20%. Or it might even go down, seeing that the Baht has risen quite a bit in recent times. But that's wishful thinking.

Compared to what exactly? The Thai Bhat has not "risen quite a bit in recent times" against world currencies. And even against the battered and bruised USD (which has been very weak across the board,) over the past 6 months the Bhat has only gained about 7% or so-- but that's nothing noteworthy or significant whatsoever considering that many world currencies have been strong against the USD during this time. That increase reflects only weakness in the USD-- not any strength for the Bhat-- far from it.

Most major world currencies (excluding HKD, SGD, CAD) have done better (many substantially better) vs. USD than the Bhat during this time period. The Bhat has not shown any unusual strength whatsoever.

In fact, compared to the Euro, the Great British Pound, the Australian Dollar and the Japanese Yen the Bhat has actually lost strength since your July 12th 2003 pronouncement that Bhat would "appreciate in the near to not too far future."

I think that the price might be rising by 10% from what the agent I spoke to in Bangkok said. I wanted to get a DONE4 issued and he quoted a fare from BA that was 10% higher than I already had quoted.

As an aside, Circle of Asia were a really good agency to get a ticket from. I had the ticket ex-bkk issued on friday and it arrived by Federal Express today. It has also saved having to spend a day in BKK to get a ticket issued ( as well as getting a pretty decent discount )

Dave,

could you post or mail me details of your TA? I'm currently looking for a good TA in Asia. And BKK would suit my needs well as it is on the way SYD-LHR anyway.

The agency is Circle of Asia

+662 254 1333

The agent I dealt with is Anant Kumar

I found him to be very good. I arranged the ticket via AA and then gave him the locator. On friday, I asked for it to be done and on the afternoon, the ticket was with Fedex and in Melbourne on monday morning. He even gave an unexpected 10% discount ( charging THB186,000 rather than THB195,000 )

I'll email you his email address. Nicely saves spending a day in BKK just to get a ticket issued. CAn now just do SYD-BKK-LHR without the need to stopover.
