what constitutes 12 mth limit??

hey
i cant believe theres a website for this! all this time ive been relying on useless travel agents that dont know there fares and i could have found this! awesome!!!

anyway enough rambling; my girlfriend is on a 'one world 4 continents' and trying to leave europe to get her back to sydney by 28th December.

Heres the deal, we left sydney at 4.15pm on Sat 28th December 02. she wants to spend xmas day 03 (and the following day) here in europe and fly out on 27/12/03 to arrive home on 29/12/03 because flying LAX-SYD you lose a day. she reckons that AS LONG AS YOU BOARD THE LAST FLIGHT within 12 months you are within the rules. is this true?

the flight im talking about is QF108 11.45pm from LAX on 27/12/03 arriving sydney 9.15am 29/12/03. if arriving home on this day is not an option - would it be possible to leave LAX on 26/12/03 and arrive on the 28th dec (but before 4.15pm).

also, how hard is it to extend BEYOND the 12 months (say to 15 or 18mths). we booked through flight centre in sydney (if that makes a difference?). we are happy to pay any fee to do this if necessary.

I hope you guys can help! ill be very greatful.

I felt the same way when I found FT and welcome to FT.

As to your questions:

1. Impossible to extend beyond the 12 month limit - I have not heard of anyone hacing success.

2. Taking the last flight - your gf's ticket should say on the coupons "Not Valid After 28 December 2003" or something to that effect (for each segment). There is not time on that date. I am almost positive that as long as the segment she wants to book departs before the end of that date her ticket is valid. In your case, because the last date is (in theory) during the flight, it's not like they will ask her to disembark as the a/c crosses the Int Date Line

As far as I know as long as she boards the flight to SYD buy the 28th she's safe.

As to extending past 12 months. It can't be done. However, my brother was on a Star Alliance RTW and needed to stay in the USA for a few extra months, even though his ticket would expire. He called UA in the US to try and make a booking for his preferred return date. They said it's after 12 months and couldn't do anything. So I called UA here, and they did allow the booking to be made, and faxed him a new itinerary. When he tried to check in, the first few agents wouldn't let him check in as the ticket had expired. He went to the first class desk, and at first the woman would'nt let him check in. But he pestered her and flight was closing, so she checked him in.

I don't recommend you try this as it could very well backfire. My brother did have a booking with a TA for the next days flight if this wouldn't have worked.

I agree with all this.

No extensions beyond the date on the ticket, and the time of the departure of the last flight is the deciding factor.

As noted in another post, my OWE's ended up with a too-early "not valid after" date during a reissue. The agent used the date-sold, not the date of first flight, and brushed it off as a matter of no concern. A couple of the coupons are in fact for flights after that date (but within the actual 12-month limit, of course.) Any reason to worry?

I have absolutely NO success in extending my time limits on my RTW tickets, and unfortunately I have had to try on multiple occasions.
