Three dumb RTW questions
Three dumb questions:
(1) If I am in the middle of a RTW (starting in the US, and currently in HKG), can I freely travel by buying RTs to all over the place (even back the country and city of origin), return to HKG, and then "continue" my journey? Sounds like nesting to me, but would like to confirm/deny.
(2) Is it possible to "skip" segments, by reissuing the ticket not to include certain segments once the trip has begun?
(3) I know RTW tickets have a one-year expiration limit. Is this from date of issue, or from date of first travel (i.e. the first international leg)?

Your year begins on the date of your first OWE travel, not when the ticket was purchased.
So far as the OWE trip is concerned it's perfectly okay to fly home from an intermediate point on a separate ticket, then return later to continue the journey.
Sure, you can re-issue to drop a segment. When the intermediate segment is "enroute" to my further destination I've also had them collect both coupons at check-in rather than re-issue. I don't know if I got lucky or this is a matter of course.

Do you happen to know if they charge a $75 fee for doing this?
Wouldn't it be easier to simply rip the offending flights out of the ticket before checking in, or will the computer flag the fact that you haven't flown them?

If you have open tickets then you can probably just remove the unused coupons. However, if you are ticketed for actual flights then you need to cancel the flights you are not taking and reissue the ticket or risk your ongoing reservations being cancelled..

2. provided your new itin is legitimate and that you pay the 75$ reissue fee
3. from date of first segment (your first segment does not necessarily have to intl?)

I liked the topic so thought Id add my dumb questions.
When using a one world award from AA.
I imagine that I can book say. HNL-LAX-LHR-BKK-SYD which is 19000 miles and just pay that amount of points.
So i dont need to finish where I started. Making it a one way of sorts.
Is that correct?
Also will the one world award currently available still nbe avilable after 31st july? or will it just be point to original point?

No changes to the oneworld awards are planned. Also, one way awards are OK, except no open jaws allowed. I have used oneworld awards in this way in the past without problems. Under 20K miles only costs 130K FF miles in biz, a good deal since one can stop over anywhere along the way. Remember that one can NOT change the carrier (even on the same routing) once the ticket is issued. So don't expect to switch to BA from QF on the LHR-SYD segments.

Of course, if they get rid of these silly requirements and bring in fares based on one-way journeys, this would not be an issue.
