Involuntary Re-routes Questions

With all the cancellations happening worldwide many of my ticketed non-stops are becoming connections. For instance my ARN - ORD flight was changed to ARN - LHR - ORD. AA simply took the 1 coupon and issued a new ticket with the 2 coupons. The remaining part of the RTW was left untouched. Under the 1-World rules does the ARN - LHR segment now count as a European segment if I wanted to do a re-issue? Since the full ticket was not re-issued I realize there are many ways to prevent the issuing carrier from discovering this re-route, but I just wondered if there is a rule detailing what is supposed to be done.

Basically the same question, but what if the change occurs down line. For instance I hold a PER - AKL ticket. QF no longer has a single flight number flight on that route. If I went to re-issue the segment that gets me to Australia will I now be required to use 2 segments to get from PER - AKL?

thanks,
Rich

I don't think there is any specific rule in this case. Like you said, they didn't reissue the ticket so it would seem that the ticket is still valid as is.

I'm wondering if AA is really going to let me use the U.S. segments of my owe that were cancelled because of the attacks, even though I have subsequently taken the segment from the U.S. to Europe. At least that is what they said at the ticket counter. But I am sceptical.

On the QF PER-AKL segment now becoming two, I would think you would have justification to get a free additional segment, as it was QF's change not yours. Having said that QF are being pig-headed right now as far as I am concerned, so I wouldn't expect them to be overly generous.

The simple answer to this is -- unless the agent put a note in your record, anything can happen.

When the agent says "This won't count against your 4 or 6 segment limit", make sure to get the agents name, and also ask him/her to make a note to that effect in the PNR. Otherwise, it's useless information. Once it's in the PNR, it's gospel.

In the same respect, though, a ticket should contsitute a contract of carriage from a certain place to a certain place. On doing a reissue, they *should* treat it as if that is what happened. So was-arn should be the same as was-lon-arn as long as it was involuntary, because the bottom line was that they needed to get you to arn, per the original contract. Then again, what should happen and what does happen are very different things. My latest saga has reaffirmed that completely. It has also shown how much we are at the mercy of the tariffs department. One which we can not even communicate with.
