The simple answer to this is -- unless the agent put a note in your record, anything can happen.

When the agent says "This won't count against your 4 or 6 segment limit", make sure to get the agents name, and also ask him/her to make a note to that effect in the PNR. Otherwise, it's useless information. Once it's in the PNR, it's gospel.
