Anyone done a OneWorld Circle Pacific yet? I was thinking about doing one pretty soon, and wanted some feedback as to costs, etc...

I have never heard of it before, can you tell me how it works. I think I may be interested too

There is a Circle Pacific OneWorld Fare - only on the airlines of CP/QF/BA/CX/AA.
Fares originating from USA:
First-US$7034. First&Business-US$6682. Coach-US$2656.
Fares originating from Canada:
F-C$8819 (US$6111). F&J-C$8378 (US$5805)

Travel must be within the borders of the countries on the Pacific and travel must be in one direction only. Minimum stay is 5 days and maximum is 6 months. 4 free stopovers, additional stops are C$100. 1 stop must be made in Australia. And yes you may go through Buenos Aires to connect to Australia should you so wish.

anyone know if this is still offered? Also, any rules on Circle Pacific around open jaws? I'd like to do ORD-BKK, SIN-MEL, MEL-BNE, BNE-ORD and think it will be cheaper to Circle Pacific in J than individual fares.

I think your best bet would be to ask QF or CX's RTW desk. Go have a look at travel.com.au North America tab and you'll find something to find fares. There's a QF/BA/AA/CX/LA Circle Pacific ex-Australia CIRMJQF/ONE1W for A$5,512.

For that BKK-SIN leg, I think you can go AY or take CX via HKG. Should be very doable. Come back via EZE or SCL to get more miles!

Other combos (in order of ascending fares) are: AR/MH, NH/NZ, AN, NZ, SQ, QF/BA/AA/LA/CX, AR/TG, AR/SQ, MH/UA, CX/UA, AN/UA, QF/NW/FJ (Air Pacific), QF/UA, QF/DL/FJ, QF/JL.

It really depends what anyone's needs are for Circling the Pacific. IMO, 1W fare is too steep since I can buy Polynesian Air's Circle the Pacific for about $450 in coach. Of course that's the price you pay for flying around the last few paradises on Earth. If your aim is to fly between USA, Asia and Australia then obviously Polynesian can't be of much assistance to you and you need to find another alternative but FWIW, Aerolineas Argentinas has some GREAT fares in the South Pacific (some biz fares even cheaper than coach despite QF codeshare).

Little known factoid-- CX operates 1-2 flights/day between BKK and SIN.

I've done a couple of these. Not so good as owe's with respect to flexibility. Cost of add-ons can be quite steep if you want to visit cities in the US or Canada not defined as pacific (e.g. ORD, DFW, etc.). This can be got around by purchasing an AA visit USA type ticket (priced base on segments - min. 3), the rules are restrictive but can be upgraded using VIP's or electronic upgs if you are AA elite. Watch out for the surcharge if you want to go to South America - ex Australia it is quite expensive.

One other question--are fares like this and the oneworld explorer valid on American Eagle?

thanks for the input on BKK-SIN...I actually want to do that as BKK-HKT-PEN-SIN, so I really don't think I have any OW options short of connecting through HKG.

Going to go book later today so we'll see what happens.

so, interestingly, the only problem I had in booking was AA's codeshare on NRT-BKK with JAL. If AA doesn't honor the circle pacific fare with "J" or "C" class inventory (no "D" available), then the whole kit and caboodle goes to *A (even though I'm nobody on *A, I wouldn't have much choice). I really don't want to fly eastbound from ORD...the ORD connections to the BA/QF flights from London are poor plus it adds another continent to the fare. And CX doesn't go non-stop from ORD so I would be adding another connection.

and the verdict...

JL wins on the ORD-BKK segment. Just changing that one segment off AA (and the AA codeshare with JL to BKK) made a $2800 difference in the fare, dropping it to US$4300. Of course, that means no status points on AA, no double miles, and no use of VIP2 to upgrade to first but such is life.

SIN-MEL-OOL (Gold Coast, actually closer to where I'm going) on QF
OOL-SYD on QF
SYD-LAX on AA codeshare (QF metal)
LAX-ORD on AA

Amazingly, this is $46 cheaper than the cheapest ORD-BKK full J-class fare alone!

If that's the case did you try using AA for the ORD-NRT portion? I would have thought the fares would be similar, but I guess anything is possible in the weird world of tarrifs.

yes, I originally booked it as AA ORD-NRT and AA codeshare NRT-BKK. I guess we didn't try AA ORD-NRT and JL NRT-BKK, but I don't think that will fix it. JL and QF apparently offer a circle pacific of their own, so though I haven't seen the tickets, I suspect that's whose deal I'm getting.

When I call to ticket next week, I'll ask them to check that one more time.

Does anyone know what the booking codes are for the oneworld circle pacific tickets are? I'm assuming that they are the same as for oneworld RTW (i.e. M for coach, D for business, and A for first), but I'm not sure.
