owe zones

i've been looking for the definitions of zones [ continents ] & can't find anything. is there a definition any where? got a owe star file print today. it uses zones in rules but doesn't define. thanks ........ currently 1645 in dallas. just talked to x at aa rtw . asked for info on zones. was told to go to city ticket office & ask them to do something w/ areas & call rtw for guideance! asked if it could be faxed to me. ans- no, is this strange?....... perhaps i should shut up & take what the defence will give me! i'm not trying to max miles but to travel on social security, & go where we want to go.

Clacko,

If you call the RTW Desk they should be able to send you a brochure. The North American Number is 800.247.3247.

Also, I remember see a scan of the brochure up on Fewmiles's Unoffical RTW site (or perhaps there was a link from there to the brochure.

If you have no luck, let me know and I'll dig out my brochure and scan it in for you (let me know soon however, as I'm in the middle of packing to move).

AA in general seems to be really anal about giving out info that would make someone's life that much easier. It reminds me of a Dilbert type thing, where they are the keyholders of information, and you need to worship them accordingly. Like the other day, I asked (after they couldn't do what I needed...made the mistake of calling after-hour res) what F availability was. Can't give that info. What do you mean, can't give that info? Is it F0, F1, F2? Nope, can't give it. Can you tell me if it is above F1? Nope. It's something that I never understood.

As far as your question. In general, this is how it goes and pardon my spelling. Also pardon any minor mistakes, as this is from memory.....

N/A includes North America, Hawaii, Central America to Panama, Bermuda, and *most* of the Carribean.

S/A includes South America below Panama, Easter Island, and the very lowest of the Carribean. Probably the only really important ones would be the N.A. (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao). I don't know what would happen if you put Aruba in N/A. Something tells me that they might not catch it since you can't go from a South American country. Only from San Juan.

Asia includes mainland Asia west of about Moscow, India, Pakistan, Far East, and the SE Asian countries down to the bottom of Indonesia.

Europe includes Europe, Scandinavia, Iceland (though there is no service currently), Asia to Moscow, the middle east and the Saudi Penninsula, Not sure about Iran (think it's Europe), And all of the African countries that border the Mediterranian. Egypt, Morocco, Libya, etc.

Africa includes all of Africa that does not border the Med, Mauritius, Seychelles.

Australia includes Oz, New Zealand, all of the 'nesias except Indonesia (micronesia, fiji, etc.), New Caladonia, Tahiti (though no current service except through IPC), and the biggish island above Oz and East of Indonesia. I apologize, the name is escaping me completely, and I don't have a map in front of me.

Look harder on FewMiles site and you will find the link to the maps. They are there.

No. Borneo isn't a country. The old island of Borneo is part Malaysia, part Brunei, and most Indonesia (Kalimantan). This computer doesn't want to cooperate, but I think its Papua New Guinea. East of Timor, anyway.

Yes, they are used the same.

A three continent fare and a three zone fare are the same thing.

And it is PNG. Port Moresby.

talked to aa rtw desk a bit ago. she confirmed that zones & continents are the same, but said that areas are [perhaps roughly] are asia &australia & pacific islands, north & south america, & europe & africa. i am contemplating on it. also said that brochures are not available. also said that europe and africa area is the province of ba.[ makes sense to me]. can't remember which area is which but think that you have to do all your travel in one area before going to another. was suggested that i check www.oneworldalliance.com in lieu of brochure. am going there after dinner..... as an aside was told that in steerage on ib, the only aa mi's you get are 30% for trans atlantic. i asked if we get none for lpa-mad? ans was none.

Visit the above link to see a map of the OWE zones.

There is also a link to it from the Fewmiles site.
