What's considered a stop?
W/ OW RTW, flying Bangkok to Cairo the flight routes via London. Is London considered a stopover?
Also, if taking the ferry to Spain from Morocco, would Spain count as a stopover?

My understanding is that the first is not a
stop. A stop is longer than 24 hours. I
would check to confirm with AA or CX.

canuckz, unless the rule recently changed, you can have unlimited stopovers in all the continents except for the one you start in. So it really doesnt matter anymore except in very certain cases. For the most part, those would be when you are doing a 2nd transit though Europe or North America when you are coming back from Africa or North America, respectively. RTW is right, though, that a stop is over 24 hours.

You are limited as to the number of segments.
I had to pay for an extra segment in Asia.
I believe you get four segments at least in
Asia.

Checking out the rules on fewmiles, I'm rather confused when it lists the stopevers permitted:
AFRICA 4
ASIA 5
EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST 4 - NO MORE THAN 2 OF WHICH MAY BE TO/FROM THE MIDDLE EAST
NORTH AMERICA 6
SOUTH AMERICA 4
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC 4
But then it goes on to say:
NOTE -
1/ A STOPOVER IS A BREAK OF JOURNEY IN EXCESS OF 24 HOURS.
2/ THREE FREE STOPOVERS PERMITTED IN EACH CONTINENT OTHER THAN THE CONTINENT OF
COMMENCEMENT OF TRAVEL.
Is it 3 or 5 in Asia?
Thanks,
-J

That's the OLD rules. The new rules state segments of 4 allowed in each continent except for North America which is 6. You may stop at each segment. You may purchase additional segments within each continent for US$550 for First Class, US$400 for Business and US$150 for economy.
So let's just say you're flying from NY to LON. From there, you are allowed 4 segments to your next intercontinental departure point. So from LON-PAR-MAD-HEL-FRA then to BKK. In fact, that's 5 stopovers within Europe then.
If you open jaw, meaning fly into one city and surface, even though you have no flight in between, that is still considered a segment irrespective if any oneworld flight occurs.
