OWE ticket taxes
Hello,
I read in the pricing chart that the OWE tickets are excluding taxes. What is normally the % of tax on a OWE ticket?? I guess it's not only the origin country's VAT since its international travel. Just wondering if it adds a lot to the final cost, plus all the airport taxes when you leave each country.
Thank you,

I know that airport taxes are different from an airport to another and that you usually pay them at the gate before leaving. But what will be the taxes when I PAY the OWE ticket???? They also apply a tax for each destination or what? Thank you & happy travels

Jerantut,
There must be MANY MANY gate agents who have been happy to have you as a passenger.
In almost all developed countries and most emerging economy countries you will pay the tax before hand and that tax will be included in your ticket. Only a few places (ie. BKK and many Central American countries) do you actually pay cash on departure.
Therefore, as Chiangi said, taxes on a OWE will vary wildly based on your destinations. If you include a couple stops in London in Biz Class that is almost 100USD that will be collected at ticketing!!

What is referred to as 'taxes' for Explorer RTW is, I think, 'airport taxes' suh as facilities usage/improvement, quarantine process charges, and not value added taxes.
As RichLond says, nowadays, these charges often need to be included in tickets.
In Japan or any other countries that I have purchased international air tickets (CH included), they are not subject to VAT or any other domestic levies typically imposed on products and services sold domestically.

Thank you for your replies,
I guess I did not know that they were collected in the price of the ticket. The places travel the most to are Montreal and Bangkok and they all collect it at the gate.
Muchas Gracias

Jerantut,
Welcome to flyertalk by the way. I must admit it is tempting to make a joke about Canada collecting cash on departure and my earlier comment that "in all developed countries ... you will pay the tax before hand and that tax will be included in your ticket". However that may start a flame war so I will make no such joke.
I also have wondered many times about taxes collected on tickets versus taxes at the airport. I paid a 35USD tax on my ticket for Lima but was then required to pay another 25USD tax in cash at the airport. Does anyone have a link or can post a list of what those 2 letter tax codes on tickets actually stand for?? I remember a post a while back having this, but I could not find that post via Search.
thanks,
rich

One of the most painful is Chile for US citizens. They have a "reciprocal visa charge", which is a one-time $60 (or so) charge to enter the **** country. Payable only in dollars and only in cash. Good thing is that once you pay it, that's it. Unless you lose your passport or the visa, I guess. Then with each entry and exit, you pay about $20 exit tax. Being a developed country (somewhat, I suppose), they do include this in the price of a ticket, but not the reciprocal charge.
Places with exit taxes included BKK, HKG, DPS, CUR, and LIM. I can't remember if Hungary or Venezuela did or not, and I have been told that Cairo does. Haven't been there, yet. I have been told that sometimes HKG includes it ($50hkd, or $7usd), sometimes not. In my case, it was not. Lima *never* includes it, and is about $25 for international and $10 for domestic. Curacao is around $20, and Denpasar is a whopping $5. I really don't remember BKK, but I think it was 500 baht or about $13.
