urghh, hate to disappoint you but, QF317=PH817=Polynesian Airlines metal... Are you already ticketed? Then QF will honor your AKL-PPT segment and put you on the codeshare (as in my case, although due to other priorities I was endorsed to a different non-OW airline).

ChrisMoss7, thanks for the tip on QF seats. I had read some time ago that one of the BA HKG flights had the new bed in Biz. But I am 6'2" and it may be a bit cramped for this lanky body. Then it's CX to SYD but I may not have enough layover time in HKG to enjoy a much needed massage!

MCRT, sorry, Silver is correct. The latest Qantas schedule lists QF317 operated by Polynesian Airlines. And to make matters worse, that's a very long flight on a 737. The new codeshare came into effect as of 29 November, which is the same date when Qantas discontinued its own service to PPT.
But, if you were ticketed before the change of schedule, I would venture to say that QF must honor the routing.
And thanks for the well wishes...you can only imagine how much I am looking forward to taking this trip!!!

don't worry, you'll receive miles... if you fly with a QF flight number, you're 100% set, but even if not (i.e. with a PH or TN flight number), QF is quite accomodating in reinstating you the miles... at least I was okay...

The LHR-NRT equipment is the new configuration. I believe that they went into service in October.

Drat. The Qantas schedule I have dated 29 Oct 2000 shows the flight number change as 29Nov, but doesn't indicate that the metal is anything other than their own. Oh well.

I haven't ticketed yet. I'm looking at leaving in Mid-May. One trick I learned tonight was that if you have a connection and not a stopover you only count the direct miles. So MIA-LHR-NBO (8643 miles) becomes MIA-NBO (7921 miles) and CAI-LHR-BOM (6666 miles) becomes CAI-BOM (2690 miles)

In theory this means from AKL-PPT (2583 miles)is possible for me with the routing AKL-LAX-SCL-IPC-PPT (19376 miles)

My reason for concern with minimizing miles instead of stretching them is that the AA award ticket is good for 35,000-50,000 miles. The rough route I have is at 43773 miles counted with 65803 actual miles. This is assuming the above AKL-PPT route.

just to avoid confusion, mcrt, you're talking about a oneworld rtw award, and kir, you're on a oneworld explorer, right?

mcrt, sorry you weren't ticketed, sadly, you now have no way to get to tahiti direct from AKL on a OW award... the award doesn't allow you codeshare flights on non-OW metal...

maybe you might get to fly the codeshare with a standard QF award. in the past, i've experienced that i can fly HKG-ZRH on SR as a CX codeshare on a CX award with AA miles, but not as a CX flight with a OW award...

mcrt, if you are going to IPC, you need to ticket early! early! early!!!!!!!

*Especially* in A or D. I wanted to book IPC for April, and *nothing* was available. Not even in coach. Nowhere else did I have seating problems. Though keep in mind if you are flying first class that most LA planes only have 3 F seats, and only one will be allowed for A fares. I ticketed in November, btw, so I wanted a seat 5 months early.

Yes I am planning on a OW Award ticket from AA miles. The IPC portion will be at about 10.5-11 months into a trip that will start in about 5 months so the IPC leg will be about 16 months from now. Hopefully I can get out there.

MCRT, Forgive me if I am reading too much into your post but it may be worth checking on whether you can book a flight more than 1 year out. Perhaps the way to go is with open segments (cities without dates) but it is not clear to me as to how the current reservation systems would handle itineraries that extend beyond the airline schedules which are currently loaded. Planning a 10, 11 or 12 month long trip must have its own unique challenges!
In any case, there will undoubtedly be schedule changes after you begin a long trip so just remember to periodically check in with the carriers that you are confirmed with.
