Credting individual flight segments to several FF programs
Individual segment selecting credit works only with American Airlines flights. When you advise your travel agent or AA that you wish to segment select your respective flights to several FF program, this is guaranteed to work only on AA flights.
However, it will not work on Cathay Pacific or BA flights.
Worse, if one one airline is checking you through from origin to destination on several oneworld carriers, it will apply the first FF number to all the flights irrespective of what you have booked it under.
The case here is " Cathay Pacific".
I travelled from SIN-HKG on CX. Then HKG-LHR-BUD on BA. The first flight on CX is credited to CX's Asiamiles, and the rest is to be credited to AA. WHen CX checked me in, it automatically put it's CX asiamiles number on all my boarding pass. When I protested, they told me that they cannot 'split' the FF number out. I had to recheck in at HKG in order to get it done properly.
You have all been warned!

the only definite way of ensuring proper credit in such cases is not to provide any FF number until after the trip or submit flight segments for credit at the Wing or Exec Clubs , etc. along the way. If you give a number and its entered into the system the odds of an incorrect posting increase tenfold

My 6 Continents bonus run was better than last years experience. The only odd thing I found was that AA can retro-actively change the frequent flyer number AFTER you've flown the sector.
I checked in at SFO after completing a flight the day before from JFK which had my BA number in it. The other AA sectors now had my BA number but I wanted AA. The agent asked me if I wanted the points for all the sectors - this I took to mean all future flights. In fact she meant all AA flight and so the JFK-SFO turned up in AA.
I sent AA an email and they removed the flight. I've sent it to BA for credit.

I don't wantto go into specifics, but that is why I trust American Airlines' CRS SABRE more than anyone else's.
It's a real pity that both BA and QANTAS decide to opt for AMADEUS to host their systems.

on my recent rtw, i bravely(or stupidly)tried putting in ff numbers on every segment. the program that was the most proficient in posting correctly- 10 for 10 in fact, was cx!!! aa was only 4 of 6, and the two flights i had problems with were the ones, after talking to check in, the admirals club, and the platinum desk, couldn't get the ff number to print on the boarding pass. the other four with the number boldly printed on them were ok. qf was the worst - of my six flights, only two posted correctly, those two being after the 8/31 end date of the promotion. of the errant postings, all of them posted directly to my aa acount, so getting them removed, and transferred to trhe right account shouldn't be a problem. la seems to be right on top of the matter, i'll keep you up to date on the rest as its resolved.
guy besty - that agent gave you a line of bull!!! i changed numbers 5 times throughout the 10 flights with no problems at all. and this was throughout the route system, not just in hkg.

Lonman, I beg to differ. CX would correctly put in the seperate flights if all the flights are on different days. But if the three flights (one with CX and the others with other oneworld carriers)are consecutively on the same days, CX's computer simply cannot fathom that.
I have even tried it on another occasion with two seperate connecting CX flights. One has one FF number input on the reservation segment selected to put in my CX Asiamiles for the BKK-HKG sector and then HKG-SYD sector on AAdvantage. I've had the res agent print in the request and showed it to me prior to check in for this flight so I know which flight segment is going where. I don't show my FF cards when I check in but when I checked both boarding cards, CX automatically applied the CX asiamiles number for both flights. When I asked that the second be remove, they said that it couldn't be done. It can only if it is on a different day apparently.
But I have done similarly on some AA flights and the respective FF numbers have been placed correctly.

here is my cx metal itinerary and ff postings on my recent rtw.
8/22 yyz-hkg aa
8/24 hkg-tpe aa
8/24 tpe-hkg aa
8/25 hkg-mnl cx
8/26 mnl-hkg aa
8/27 hkg-kul la
8/28 kul-hkg aa
8/28 hkg-sel ba
8/29 sel-hkg ba
8/29 hkg-bne aa
now granted, i made a point of changing the numbers at each intermediary point on the trips where i had two flights in one day to ensure they were correct, but as i stated, all 10 flights have posted correctly.

From what I can find out from AA - when the FF number is anything EXCEPT American - it does not print on the boarding pass.
This seems, from my experience to be true, and does not of itself prevent correct posting to the scheme that you choose.

aa is able to print other numbers on the boarding pass. the agent has to play around with the spacing of the input. i have boarding passes with my ba (8 digits), la & cx numbers on them (10 digits). the problem usually arises for me when i let them off of the hook in terms of the number not printing on the pass. that's when it usually gets credited to the wrong account.
