AA 100K Promo Rules

Can anyone clarify this matter for me (and for AA as well). I contend that according to the regulations for this promo as set out in their August newsletter, a flight need not be in an AAdvantage mileage accrual eligible fare to qualify for this promo as long it is a legitimate paid fare "marketed by a participating oneworld carrier and flown on a oneworld carrier". The issue of AAdvantage mileage accrual eligible fares only applies in the regulations relating to the Million Mile Sweepstakes also advertised in the same issue.

AA agents insist flight must be on a mileage accrual eligible fare, but that is not how I read this rule. How about any of you? (Check out the text on the AA website by pulling off a copy of the newsletter in Acrobate format.)

This will matter to any of us who have used the N-class fare on the 5th freedom flight between JFK and YVR. (I was ultimately upgraded to J, but my paid fare remains the N-class one and that is what they will be looking for.)

I agree with you on this one.

When I called AA back in September, they told me that the asterisk in "eligble fares*" related to the word "fares" and not to the word "eligible"!!!! They said that the word "eligible" had special meaning as defined in the terms and conditions of the AAdvantage program.

I doubt this argument would hold up in court, but AA know that no member is going to have the time or inclination to mount a legal challenge.

BA are on dodgier ground as their terms and conditions state simply "An eligble flight is one which is both marketed and operated by a OneWorld alliance airline." There is also no get-out clause that says that the terms and conditions can be changed.

I was checking my AAdvantage account balance on the web today and found a new link promoting the 100K promo. Just for curiosity sake, I went to the page and guess what?

AA have modified the rules for this promo. As I pointed out in an earlier posting here, there was no specific reference on any of their original material that qualifying flights had to be mileage accruing, only that they are purchased fares marketed by the Oneworld carrier and flown on a Oneworld aircraft (if codeshare).

The new posting specifically says eligible flights must also be mileage accrual flights.

I have not had my CX flight (in a non-mileage accrual but paid fare which other Oneworld carriers grant mileage) posted for my 5th Oneworld carrier on AA as yet, but from the new promo qualifier, they are certainly aware of this matter of interpretation of their earlier wording. (I made a point in my letter to AA to say I did not expect any mileage for my CX flight, only the Oneworld bonus.)

Well, we'll see what happens.
