Bonuses?
Not to sound greedy or anything, but is there any word yet on bonus promotions for utilizing the oneworld partners?
Last fall, United had a two-month promo with Star Alliance partners: fly United plus two other Star carriers and get 5,000 miles; 15,000 miles for four carriers; 25,000 for five carriers; 50,000 miles if you flew all six carriers. The bonus was valid in all classes of service, too.

Peter: "Next month SIA will join Star so we'll probably have another promotion to boot."
The next partner of StarAlliance is ANA (october 1999) and SIA is in talks (has declared) that they may join in late 1999.

Roti asks a good question.
The reason the Star alliance ran the promotion, is to build loyalty (obviously) to their carriers. i.e., Fly UA from the U.S to Europe, SK or LH in Europe and then maybe TG on to Asia.
Oneworld will probably do the same thing for the same reason. I suspect you will see a promotion towards the end of the summer when Iberia and Finnair come on line.
The existing promotion between BA and Qantas has more to do with BA's 25% stake in Qantas.
