Bonuses?

Not to sound greedy or anything, but is there any word yet on bonus promotions for utilizing the oneworld partners?

Last fall, United had a two-month promo with Star Alliance partners: fly United plus two other Star carriers and get 5,000 miles; 15,000 miles for four carriers; 25,000 for five carriers; 50,000 miles if you flew all six carriers. The bonus was valid in all classes of service, too.

And Ansett have a promotion on at the moment because it has become part of Star Alliance.

Next month SIA will join Star so we'll probably have another promotion to boot.

cheers peter

Peter: "Next month SIA will join Star so we'll probably have another promotion to boot."
where did you get that information (next month!?) from?

The next partner of StarAlliance is ANA (october 1999) and SIA is in talks (has declared) that they may join in late 1999.

Ansett is offering 5000 extra Global Rewards points for each two international flights members take on any [mon]star carrier [including AN], good thru 31 May. See the Ansett forum.

OneWorld have promotions as we speak (the BA/Qantas free companion ticket for example) but they are not the same as the Star promo. But then who said they would be and why should they be?

Roti asks a good question.

The reason the Star alliance ran the promotion, is to build loyalty (obviously) to their carriers. i.e., Fly UA from the U.S to Europe, SK or LH in Europe and then maybe TG on to Asia.

Oneworld will probably do the same thing for the same reason. I suspect you will see a promotion towards the end of the summer when Iberia and Finnair come on line.

The existing promotion between BA and Qantas has more to do with BA's 25% stake in Qantas.
