Thanks Jerry. My travel agent told me that I cannot surface between 2 continents. From your reply it seems to be ok to surface between SCL & CUN. Right?

Ok...I posted this question as well in the HKG section under travel agencies as well. I am going to HKG in the next several days, and as the OW pros here has mentioned HKG is a good place to start from for the DCIR26.

You could also try to arrange the booking through the AA rtw desk and tell them you will be purchasing in HKG and then purchase through the AA GSA in HKG: Ticket Sales Centers - Hong Kong NO airport ticketing facilities available The Walshe Group Room 2907, Central Plaza 18 Harbour Road Wanchai, Hong Kong Monday - Friday 9.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m. Reservations Telephone: (+852) 3678 8500 Fax: (+852) 3678 8501 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/onewo...t-visited.html I think they have moved to the above address since this 2008 post. |

Hi all! I am wanting to do the pacific circle using DCIR26 for HKG-JFK-SYD-HKG but seems this will be only around 24000 miles, any suggestions to add more stops in between to make use of near 26000 miles?
Thanks :) |

Thanks :) Your itinerary is in fact only 22,602 miles according to gcm So one option is to get it below 22,000miles and save yourself some money by buying a DCIR22 instead of a DCIR26 - for example HKG-ORD-LAX-SYD-HKG If you play around with gcm you can explore possibilities for your DCIR26 - such as HKG-NRT-JFK-LAX-SYD-AKL-BNE-HKG |

This would be leisure-only trip for 2 weeks (can't be flexible on the 2 weeks). Having never been to any of the places on either itinerary, were you happy cramming in a lot of destinations in a short period of time, or would you have preferred more time in just one continent?

At $9300 plus taxes, however, I'd be inclined to look at RTW fares instead of Circle Pacific. If, for example, you flew relatively cheaply to Europe, you could conceivably start a 4-continent RTW in someplace like Poland for under $8300 plus taxes, or around $7000 - $7300 in the "near" Middle East. Then fly east - to Asia en route to Oz, then home... and still have six North America segments and a couple of European ones remaining, which you could use over the space of a year.
[snip] AMM RJ BKK CX HKG QF MEL QF SYD QF DFW. (Then pause the trip and go back to work.) Then, later (imaginary) DFW AA ANC AA DFW AA YVR CX JFK AA DFW AA MAD IB IST BA LHR RJ AMM, then miles home. There are literally thousands of permutations on this theme. IMO way, way more bang for the buck than the DCIR22.

AAs HKG desk is perfectly good and accepts not present credit cards (just need to fill out and send back a word doc)...
You will run into probs if you try a non-valid itin though (dont ask) |

JQ (non QF codeshare)?
Is it possible to use JQ flights that aren't available as QF codeshares? I'm looking into an ex-HKG xCIRCxx in lieu of an xONEx, and am thinking it would be nice to visit the new Hilton Gold Coast or maybe Noosa, so I'd want to fly via OOL or MCY, and these seem to be served only by JQ codes.
(I could fly to BNE and take the train, at least for the Gold Coast, but that seems much more difficult.) E.g., hkg-nrt-dfw-san-lax-mel-ool-syd-akl-syd-hkg shows at 25,987 per Great Circle Mapper. |
