Not always. If you need to go from SEA-FCO in that order direct may be best. In the past I have been guilty of using the longest routing at the expense of an extra segment . Depends on if you want to use all 16 max segments and see as much as possible.. There are more segments available than you can use on all XONEX products.
Sure, theoretically, but there's no One World SEA-FCO nonstop service, so your first routing isn't available on an xONEx itinerary.

I fly several xONEx itineraries annually, and have for more than a decade. (I have businesses in BOS and UTH and commute between them several times per year.) I've never had an itinerary that was fewer than 16 segments.

AS announces SEA-LHR, SEA-KEF
Alaska has announced daily service to London Heathrow and (apparently) seasonal daily service to Iceland starting next year.
AS has also revealed new livery for the 789s that will serve the new long haul destinations. (KEF will get a 737 with the current paint job.)

Cathay Pacific made its eagerly anticipated return to the Belgian capital yesterday (3 August) with the launch of its four-times-weekly flights between Hong Kong and Brussels. The new service reestablishes an important direct link between the airline’s home city and the Heart of Europe, offering customers even greater choice, connectivity and convenience.

Anyone know what's up with UL? Are they out of business? I don't have time to check the entire schedule, but availability on flights ex-CMB to BKK, LHR, KHI, DEL, NRT and ICN seems to have been zeroed out in all fare categories. The flights are still listed, but everything zeroed out. I'm going to have to rethink the Asia segments of my next ticket.

I think UL wants to limit bid for upgrade playing.
It is a pain but the flights are on their website.
Even my CMB TA was limited in her ability to assist my wandering

Yes, I can see now that flights are available on their own website. But I must be missing something, Fred. If they want to limit bid-for-upgrade playing, why zero out their highest full-fare business fare classes, like J and C? Or maybe they just don't want to cooperate with EF any more.
I'll call the AA RTW desk later and see if they can see any D inventory.
ETA: Just checked Google Flights, and everything's there, but Google Flights doesn't list fare classifications, just the cabin. I need D class seats. EF seat maps look like they're live.
