New or changed routes and services
I'm going to open a thread covering reported or anticipated new Oneworld routes and services. While speculation is inevitable, let's try to keep "letters to Santa" to a minimum.
I'll start off with the anticipated announcement of AA serving AKL in the immediate future, either from LAX or DFW - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...2015-a-54.html starting around post no. 797. This would fill a big hole in the SW Pacific left by Qantas' withdrawal from the route a few years ago. |

One big thing for oneworld is how large the cuts to the MH network will be. |
Here are some
QR to ADL: According to http://airlineroute.net/2015/10/13/qr-adl-may16/ QATAR Airways starting May 2016 is launching its 4th destination in Australia, where it’ll serve Doha – Adelaide market on daily basis. From 02MAY16, the oneWorld member will begin operation using Airbus A350-900XWB aircraft. Reservation for this route opened in the last hour. QR914 DOH2055 – 1625+1ADL 359 D QR915 ADL2130 – 0450+1DOH 359 D AA cancels MIA - FRA: http://airlineroute.net/2015/10/13/aa-miafra-s16cxld/ American Airlines in latest schedule update has removed planned seasonal resumption on Miami – Frankfurt route in 2016. The oneWorld member previously scheduled daily 767 operation from 12MAY16 to 01SEP16 (US departure). Based on current schedule planning, AA will continue to serve Frankfurt from Charlotte, Dallas and Philadelphia. And some speculation: QF to fly LHR - PER http://www.businesstraveller.com/new...erth-to-london Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has announced the airline plans to "open up direct service from Australia to Europe for the first time", according to an Air Transport World report. The Australian carrier will operate the B787-9, which it expects to take delivery of in 2017, on the Perth-London Heathrow route. |
BA JNB to St Helena
Comair (BA) are starting a weekly return service (Sats only) from Jo'berg to St Helena starting in Feb 2016. At least, they plan to as long as the new airport is open. Trials began in Sept 2015 and it looks good.
To date, it is a 3-day trip by boat from Cape Town to St Helena. Does anyone know the prospective airport code? It would make a healthy side trip on a RTW (5 hrs+ each way) assuming that it counts as part of Africa in the same way that Mauritius does. |

I'm moving this to the "new routes" thread. Amazing news, by the way - high on my bucket list.
Gardyloo Oneworld moderator Edited to add - looks like it will go on to Ascension Island monthly. St. Helena - HLE Ascension - ASI |

LATAM announces GRU-JNB
Starting in 2016 apparently.
http://www.panrotas.com.br/noticia-t...979.html?lista If this turns out to materialize it would plug the gap in the southern route network and allow an RTW routing entirely in the southern hemisphere. http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=GRU-JNB-SYD-SCL-GRU Whether the rules will be updated to allow this on a DONE3 remains to be seen. |

Washington DC will be LAN Peru’s fifth destination in the USA, served non-stop from its Lima hub four times a week from the second half of next year. LAN Peru will also launch service from its Lima hub to Montevideo five times a week from January and to Antofagasta three times weekly from December. While TAM is to suspend flights between Belo Horizonte and Miami from March, it will double frequencies between Brasilia and Orlando to six a week, and LAN Peru will add three more frequencies between Miami and Lima, giving a total of 17 a week. Frequencies on a number of other routes between the USA and Latin America will also be adjusted. As previously announced, LAN Airlines will next month take over TAM’s service to Milan Malpensa from Sao Paulo, originating now in Santiago. In December, the group will open two new routes from Punta Cana, with LAN Colombia flying from Bogota and TAM from Brasilia, with four round trips a week in both markets. A rules question. If a new destination becomes available after the start of your xONEx, can you do a reroute? I know one cannot use EI if they were not a part of OW when ticketed, but was not sure about new destinations with existing OW members.
|
Yes, because the xONEx fares don't have routing rules that state a specific path from XXX-ZZZ must be followed, only the continental routing rules about entering/leaving a continent or limitation on how many cross-continent flights you may have.
The existing carrier limitation is written in there at the time of purchase (as being valid specific carriers only), but destinations are not specified. |
Of course, the US$125 per PAX Re-ticketing fee would normally be charged in such cases. (+/- changes to +++ & + any service fee)
