Should I quote BAEC or AA number
Hi,
I am new to this forum and I am traveling PHX- LAX- LIH and back next week via AA/US Airways.
I am a BAEC Silver member and unfortunately for me this year I have accumulated excess tier points (1060) already and my points reset right after this trip. The only reason I have quoted my BAEC number in this trip because I had miscalculated my tier reset point and thought this trip would add tier points to the next year and would help me maintain my silver next year as I don't plan to travel much. Anyways, my main question is, now that I really don't need the tier points for my BAEC, its about the miles/avios. I have never used the AAdvantage though I have registered for it.
Is it wise to use my AAdvantage number, ie, would I gain enough miles for any kind of upgrade in the future? Or is it wise to leave my BAEC number and get the 50% bonus on the miles and redeem the whole lot of avios later?
This whole trip is in economy class. BAEC would give me 80 tier points and a little more than 6000 avios.
Thank you for your answer.

Crediting to AA would leave you with 6000 miles - not enough to redeem them for any award or upgrade. They'd be pretty much orphaned until they expire unless you planned on crediting at least another longhaul flight to your AA account. Doesn't make any sense.

Will you be checking any baggage on this trip? Would you like lounge access at PHX/LAX?

"Crediting to AA would leave you with 6000 miles - not enough to redeem them for any award or upgrade."
While that's mostly true, 6,000 AA miles is enough for a free, one-way award in Economy for travel wholly within some South American countries, or for an inter-island flight on AA partner Hawaiian.

Thank you. It makes sense. I went with the BAEC. I mainly travel on BA on long haul flights and I guess collecting Avios makes more sense.

Stick with BAEC for now.
However, given the recent Avios devaluation, the ongoing fuel surcharges charged by BA, and the fact that you seem far off Lifetime Gold and might not even keep Silver, you might want to study AAdvantage's award chart. For most flights - apart from short haul - AAdvantage is a much better option than BAEC. Europe to Africa and Asia require much fewer miles with AA, and you have the added option of Etihad, along with the rest of Oneworld. BAEC is still best for short haul though. Depends on what you want to use your miles for...
You can also get a credit card in the UK that gives AAdvantage miles. Once my BA Gold has gone away after about 15 consecutive years, I'll most likely be switching to AA...
