Qantas, Emirates, OneWorld? I'm confused
So, I booked flights (through work) using the preferred provider - Qantas.
Qantas is definitely in One World - tick.
Of course Qantas has the Emirates hook up, so heading back down under, out of LGW and I check in at Emirates. It says Emirates on the boarding card, not Qantas.
I fancied sampling the BA lounge as I've checked out the Emirates one already. I'm Sapphire on One World so I figured I should get access. BUT, more fool me, I'm flying Emirates so as it is not One World, the BA man said 'no way Jose' and off I went to the Emirates lounge. (Which is very nice, but not as good showers :-( )
But given that I'd booked Qantas - just because it's Emirates metal - does that mean I don't get my One World privileges? It seems so.
Very confusing. Keen to hear thoughts from folks?

From oneworld.com:
oneworld lounge access for frequent flyers by tier status
Enjoy exclusive access to premium airport lounges around the world with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire frequent flyer tier status. Members of oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes with the equivalent of oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier status can use lounges offered by oneworld airlines when departing on any flight marketed and operated by any oneworld member airline, regardless of cabin class being flown (exceptions are noted below).
Emerald tier frequent flyers can use First Class, Business Class or frequent flyer lounges.
Sapphire tier frequent flyers are welcome in Business Class* or frequent flyer lounges. (*does not include Qantas Domestic Business Lounges)
Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld carrier.
You must be prepared to show your boarding pass and frequent flyer membership card, with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier status, to access a lounge.
The following exceptions apply:
1. American Airlines, US Airways and Qantas offer programmes enabling customers to pay to gain access to their lounges. These programmes are not part of the oneworld agreement, and members of these programmes are not entitled to access lounges under the oneworld agreement.
2. American Airlines AAdvantage members and US Airways Dividend Miles members, regardless of their tier status or class of travel, are not eligible for lounge access when travelling solely on North American flights within or between the U.S., Canada, Mexico (except Mexico City), the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean. For more information, visit, http://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInforma...miralsClub.jsp and http://www.usairways.com/en-US/trave...b/default.html
3. Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold members, regardless of their oneworld tier status, cannot access Qantas Domestic Business Lounges.
4. Qatar Airways Al Safwa and Al Mourjan lounges at Hamad International Airport in Doha and Qatar Airways Premium Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 4 are excluded.

Irrelevant... Always watch out for the operating carrier, code shares, etc.
I can book trip with Air Canada that includes and American flight on it, AC won't let me into the lounge with an AA Boarding pass.

That doesn't mean anything. Many airlines offer codeshares with airlines that aren't members of the same alliance. Similarly many airline websites sell tickets for flights on other airlines, including airlines that aren't members of the same alliance or even codeshares services so as to allow the customer to get to their ultimate destination. Alliance status, like with oneworld, is meant to provide certain benefits when flying a member airline, not when purchasing from a member airline and flying a nonmember airline.

Perhaps a more diplomatic response for your question is that you are nowhere near the first, nor will you be the last, person to be confused on what benefits transfer when purchasing multi-carrier tickets.
Whether in the same alliance or not, there are often differences in policies. When it comes to things like lounge access these can vary a lot - and when those things matter a lot to you, it's always prudent to do some searching online to ensure what you wish to be true is actually true.
Airlines and travel booking websites often do not make it any easier (sometime more confusing).
For many of us, knowledge of these gotchas is common, and easy for us to know (also easy to be wrong). Definitely check around next time! Fortunately your main issue was just lounge access and shower quality. Others have gotten confused about luggage rights, access to preferred seating, even upgrades. Those can hurt a lot worse when wrong!

On the reverse of this, I am oneworld Emerald (BA Gold) and looking to book an Emirates ticket between Singapore and Melbourne. The outbound would be on an Emirates plane, but the return would be on Qantas. Do I have the same oneworld Emerald privileges when I check in to my Qantas operated flight (Emirates ticket) and can I use the Qantas first lounge? I've been scouring website, tried chatting with Emirates but can't get a clear answer. I should add that this Qantas flight from Melbourne is in economy... Any help welcome!!!

Look on the QF web site, as QF & EK are ff partners
BA status means nothing to EK. EK is not Oneworld.
