Using other oneworld check in desks

Is this possible? I am led to believe a perk of BA Gold (OW Emerald) is that I can use other oneworld Airlines' check in facilities.

So I am at HKG early from a connecting flight that was on another non-OW carrier. I go to BA check in for my BA F flight to LHR, but I am too early and it is closed, no one's there, so I tried QF and CX and neither would check me in for my BA flight.

I guess the way this should be interpreted is that you can use other carriers' F check-ins only if you are actually flying with them?

Cheers, Howard

Correct. You need to check in with the operating carrier. In that case you can use their premium counters with the correct OW status.

You generally always need to checking with the airline operating (ie metal) your flight.
A codeshare or your FF program has nothing to do with it,

Ok, I guess it's the way I interpreted the perk was wrong. Can't say it surprises me, their computer systems were never going to be that joined up. Slurped a coffee for half an hour and returned, but no F/bizcheck in open, only economy/wt+. Lined up with the hoi polloi for five mins, then it finally opened.

Cheers, Howard

But wouldn't it be a brilliant business decision to emphasize ONEWORLD/(operating carrier) at the check-in counter and indeed welcome all members? Especially if they were co-located the airlines could manage to save big bucks on staffing by each airline not having to staff for its peak check-in period and then have staff standing around waiting for the next.

Meanwhile I'm still waiting for BA to issue IB boarding passes at Heathrow. Admission: got >one< once. For a party of >three<. No one could flog the other two out of the machines, and eventually a supervisor explained that stupid colonists should in no way expect to get an IB boarding pass at a counter at LHR sporting a big "British/Iberia" sign.

I wish that the operating carrier would issue a boarding pass at an airport the flight doesn't touch...

Last year, I had a ICN-HKG-SIN-MEL. ICN-SIN on CX, SIN-MEL on QF. CX checked bags to MEL and issued 2 boarding passes, couldn't issue QF pass. I went to QF transfer desk in HKG. They wouldn't issue a pass for the QF flight.
