Why did I join Iberia Plus?!

Hi guys,

First post here and I'm new to being a member of a FF program so please forgive me if I'm being a little thick. I guess this questions would be aimed more at UK based members but if anyone else has any idea then I'm all ears!

So... Like I say I'm new to FF programs. I've been a member of the BA Exec Club since last September and I've managed to get to Bronze and working towards Silver at the moment, I hope to make it before the end of this membership year...

Today I received an Iberia Plus card through the post, I'd completely forgotten that I'd joined the Iberia program! I checked back through my emails and I joined Iberia Plus on the 16th of March - only 11 days ago, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it was that prompted me to join the program!

I remember that I read something on this forum or maybe headforpoints or something like that that made me think that I should join but now I can't remember what it was. So, my questions is, is there an advantage to having both a BA Exec Club account AND an Iberia Plus account? From my understanding you share the relevant benefits right across the OW alliance so there would be no reason to be a member of both, right? Or have I misunderstood completely?!

Would be very grateful if someone could clear this up for me!

As an aside, I know that you receive BA tier points whenever you fly on a OW alliance flight, but do you also receive tier points for the airline that you are actually flying with or is it one or the other? So in my example, if I flew on an Iberia flight, would I receive tier points for both my Iberia account and BA?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry: BlackBerry8530/5.0.0.1030 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/417)

The benefit of having an IB Plus account is that if you plan to redeem Avios for long-distance award flights on IB metal, you'll pay much lower fuel surcharges when redeeming IB Avios than when redeeming BA Avios. And once your IB Plus account has been open for 90 days and has some activity, you can transfer Avios from your BAEC account to your IB Plus account.

Also some IB partners credit avios to IB+ and not BA.

However, you can only credit to one program. So your avios/TP's to either BA or IB, you cannot double dip. So worth crediting everything to BA unless they would earn nothing, and then credit to IB.

Also it's worth opening an Avios.com account and having some activity, as there is sometimes additional award availability.
